"...mounting a scope on an HK91!"

What a colossal pain-in-the-ass. Nothing, including my $200 Brugger and Thomet scope mount, is level on the gun, and my Wheeler Level-Level-Level doesn't stick to the top of the B&T mount because it's aluminum. The rails are too wide apart to be of use. There's a horizontal flat spot on top of the receiver but it's maybe 12 mm wide.

Now why the hell wouldn't my B&T mount not be sitting level on the rifle? Are the tops of these guns not square to the internal rails? I can SEE it's off, that's how bad it is. I'll try to remount the mount to see if I can make it level to some part of the rifle (God only knows where I'll find a place)...

Never mind, it's just late and I'm stupid.

The rear sight, which is likely to have to come off anyway, has a nice square base on it. I loosened the mount and it was as crooked as a populist politician in August. I've got the L-L-L on across the back right now and will use the other one to level-mount the scope mount.

Looks like the joke's on all of you naysayers - got the scope mounted and sighted in, and got 5 five-round groups going with crummy Rem 55gr FMJ. It never shot over 2.4 MOA and one group was into 3/4".

Not bad for FMJ. My guess is that with my reloads it will shoot average close to a minute, which ain't bad for a stock battle rifle. It's not as good as my AR, but what semi-auto is?

Bolt stop, what is this rifle you have? Is it a real HK91, because they're 7.62x51, or did you get confused on the ammunition? I don't profess to be an expert on HK, but I've never heard of any version or conversion for a 5.56 HK91, so if you have one please share on the details and some pictures would be nice too. Thanks.
