Rifle Scopes I'm kind of scope ignorant, mind helping me?

Can someone help me out with it? I have figured out a lot of it so far, but I really like to know what I have. Is this reticle discontinued? How do I set the zero stops? Is it normal for the illumination to not be very bright on these? I ask because I was using it against a black target over the weekend, and I wanted to take advantage of the illuminated reticle, and I couldn't really tell that it was illuminated at all, in broad daylight. I could see it in low light pretty well, but that was it. I replaced the battery as well. I ask, because I have a friend with a USO SN3, and his reticle is much brighter!

Also, anything else you can tell me about this scope would be great too, like what "gen 2" means, "xl illuminated reticle," "ccw."

Thanks in advance, I have read the book that came with it, but it doesn't really contain much info.

The illuminated reticle is for low light shooting. You don't really need illumination for day time shooting. Many scope manufactures make them so bright that when you need to use it in low light it puts a huge red glow in your tube even on the lowest setting. So be glad it is not very bright, that is a good thing.

Got it. I had read somewhere that it helps pick out the reticle against a black background, but I tried it for that, and it didn't work, so low lighting is it.

I figured out that CCW means Counter ClockWise.

I'm pretty sure it does. I wind it down to "0" on the elevation knob, and it stops, and at that point, it is zeroed at 100 yards. I dial in the dope for distance from there.

I want to know how to adjust it though, in case I use other ammo that zeroes at 100 differently.

Also, I followed that link, but it only explains gen 2 and gen 2 xr, mine is billed as a gen 2 xl, where can I find the specific info on that?

I think the only disserence being the Xl has a extented illumination as opposed to the small cross on the Gen II. Other than than I understand them to be functionally the same.

Then Gen II and Gen II XL are essentially the same minus the extra points that are illuminated on the reticle.

The zero stop on the S&B single turn knobs is non-adjustable...what you see is what you get. If you zero with a different type of ammunition this is pretty much all you have to do.

Shoot and use the reticle to note the difference between where the bullet(s) impacted and the desired zero (the crosshairs).

If the bullets impact high and you are unable to dial because of the zero stop, loosen the two set screws and rotate the knob to the correct amount of elevation required. What is meant by that is if the bullets are impacting 1.2 mils high, loosen the screws, and rotate the knob to 1.2 on the knob.

Tighten the set screws and rotate the knob back down to 0.

Shoot and confirm zero. Make additional adjustments as necessary.

It would be foolish of you to sell that scope. The S&B 4-16x50 Gen2 is just about the best scope you can own for a .308 gun.

Other posters have already provided answers and or appropriate links for everything you requested except for a PMII 4-16X Gen 2 XL schematic, so below is an old Premier Reticles PMII 4-16X PMII schematic from when S & B and Premier played nice.

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">NOTES:</span></span> I compared the measurements between the Premier Reticles PMII 4-16X PMII schematic to the Premier Reticles 3-15X and 5-25X Gen 2 PDFs', and the only difference between the PMII 4-16X Gen 2 XL and Heritage Gen 2 (Heritage 3-15X and 5-25X Gen 2 share common measurements) is <span style="font-weight: bold">Dimension "B"</span> (Heavy Post Line Width/Thickness).

According to the schematics, the PMII has a Post Thickness of 1 MIL (3.6" at 100 Yards/10 CMs at 100 Meters), where the Heritages' have Post Thicknesses of .75 MIL (2.7" at 100 Yards/7.5 CMs' at 100 Meters).
