Went out to the spot I normally shoot long range last Sunday with Jbell. It hadn't been hayed in a bit, so I went by the dealership, threw a dealer plate on a Tundra, and took it back out. We set up an improvised shooting position in the bed of the truck, it was just enough room to shoot prone.

Last pic is from Thursday, I went back and decided to practice some alternate positions. I used the rear door with the window down as a rest, thought it made for a cool pic, so I took one more.

Specs- the truck is a 2011 Toyota Tundra. I manage a Toyota dealership, a demo is a perk, and I have the keys to the building. It worked out well, as I was driving a double cab Tacoma and the bed was too short to shoot out of, so I had no problem grabbing a double cab 5.7 Tundra.

My rifle (on the left and in the window pic) is an AIAX, sporting a GAP Bartlein .243 barrel. JBell's rifle is a TRG 22. Both rifles sport SAS suppressors and both sport S&B 5-25x56 PM2 scopes.

I grew up in Georgia, so I know all about chiggers, but I dont think there are any up here in Maine.

I have to say the truck bed worked out well, the Tundra has a real nice "ride". This was the best test drive I have ever been on!

Re: Improvised shooting position

i have always liked shooting off the back of the truck. never did it for long range but works nice to keep bugs off ya. and in my case, helps stay out of the cow piles. nothing worse than not paying attention and putting the mat down on a fresh pile, having it soak in and smell it for the next 10 years.

Nate </div></div>Nope, no issues with movement. The only issue was when I wasn't paying attention to being in a truck bed, and jostled around when JBell was breaking a shot (causing a miss.) Other than that, the stability was never an issue.

Re: Improvised shooting position

I used a similar setup in my Silverado this past weekend. I added an Easy-Up tent to lessen the heat, but it was still 100.7 in the shade. Now I just need a better mat. The spray on bedliner didn't make my old knees too happy.

Re: Improvised shooting position

It's all fun and games shooting out of the back of the truck. Until you get a gusty day and you can't hardly hold @ 100 yds. because the wind is rocking the truck.

I think if you are gonna park out over a field and shoot varmints/deer then get some of those RV jacks and stick 'em under the bummper

Re: Improvised shooting position

Nice set up!! Got a buddy that had a brake on a 308 and was shooting out of the bed of his truck.... needless to say his tail light is no longer in one piece.

We went shooting this past weekend early in the morning, grass was still wet, so I hooked up the trailer, 20' flat, and 4 of us were able to shoot off it great, as long as no one moved, then they got cussed. But never the less it kept us dry
