For those of you who have used IMR-4350 how temperature sensative is it?

I worked a load up with my .243 after getting a new barrel on it. The charge I found shoots very nice groups at 45gr and pressure signs such as totally filled primer pockets don't start to show till 45.5gr. However the tempearture was 35degrees out. I'm inclined to think I'm ok since I didn't get loose primers, and extractor marks but just wondering how sensative anybody has found it to be.

Re: IMR-4350 temperature sensativity

I had a case where I worked up a load in a 6.5/284 with IMR4350 in the spring and had the load get too hot in the middle of the summer. Ended up ruining some brass before I figured out what was going on. Went from stable to ruined primer pockets with the temp swing.

I will say I could have missed some other factor that contributed to extra pressure and mistook it for the temperature but imo it probably was the temp change.

Re: IMR-4350 temperature sensativity

I've never been able to identify any significant differences in my 7 Mag using 4350. It seems that Hodgdon's marketing about their Extreme powders has made everyone suspect more problems than there really are with other powders. Some powders are in fact more sensitive (Win 748 for example), but IMR powders as a whole were never that sensitive to begin with in my experience.

I use it in my .300 WM and like it. It shoots great. I've shot groundhogs with it with 110 gr bullets. 150,165,180 for deer and never had any problems. Loads run on the hot side too. I did not use it that much with the 110's but it is explosive on the groundhogs. Keep your cartridges out of the sun with anything and you won't have many problems.

It is very temp stable. Loaded (during summer) 178 amaxs 70 grains in a .300 win mag 700 p. 3100 fps. Shot some this month & only had 30 fps change
