this barrel is shooting ok. well under an inch. the jagged outline around the hole is rough to the touch and looks like metal pushed out of the barrel. is this normal after 2500 rounds? is this copper residue? nothing but jacketed bullets (mostly amax) ever fired out of this barrel

i am not afraid to re-crown if it needs it (i am learning a lot on this gun), but it looks to me like the bullet will clear this jagged area. the only question is......... will uneven gas release right at the end have any effect versus coming out of a clean ended barrel.

forgive me if this question is dumb.

The pic is bad but I think I can tell. I think you have copper or carbon buildup. My 22rf does this too after a long time without cleaning. It will affect your accuracy so clean that crap off. No need to recrown.

that was kinda what i thought too, but wasn't sure cause it was so hard. ill try to work on it with some copper solvent and see what happens. thanks!

I can't determine anything from the photo, but I think a patch with some bore solvent will probably clean off what you describe. If it is still shooting well under an inch, there is no reason to pay for a recrown and gain little to nothing. Might even make things worse depending on who does the work.

yup, you guys were right, i got aggressive and off it came. since im always cleaning from chamber, that area never sees much attention (plus im afraid to hurt the almighty crown). guess i will from now on to keep it in check. thanks again!
