Incentive for my boys

I have 2 boys, 6 and soon to be 11. They both shoot but the older one has be more and more into electronics and backed off wanting to go out with me to have trigger time.

This weekend I went with a couple friends to a custom knife place up in the UP of Michigan. Rapid Rive Knifeworks, I grabbed a new skinner for myself, their Small Kodiak. I also bought each one of my boys a custom made Mackinac with a pine cone and acrylic handle. When I got home I told them both they will be theirs when they shoot their first big game animal.

Later that night my oldest came and asked me to set up a hog hunt down south somewhere, and he needed to shoot some more to bring back his skills with a real rifle and not a video game one.

Objective achieved!!

Thanks diver, I like to think they are on are in the right path to becoming good adults. The guys I've had them around in the shooting community have always been very encouraging and help fuel their desire. We shoot with some of the guys that were at the KO2M this year and you should see them get excited about watching them on TV!

I feel your pain. Our kids are inundated with technology and its easy to just let them veg out watching TV or playing video games. The outdoors is quickly becoming a dying sport.

Find the motivation that works and exploit it. My 13 year old shot his second deer this year. This is why he goes hunting...

No hunting deer in a tshirt up here though! That's something that holds a lot of younger kids back if they're not in a heated box blind up here.

Oh, we've got heated box blinds. It can be well into triple digits sitting in a box blind down here, even in December.
