Inconsistent pressure with WSM's

I've noticed this over the years on multiple .300's and 7 WSM's. Sometimes there is no pressure at all and sometimes there's a heavy bolt lift with ejector marks. This is with factory and handloads. For example today tried some fairly light loads in a .300 WSM with 208 ELDM and H4831sc. I knew I was way below where Ive hit pressure before so I kept going to see what would happen. Load 1 had no pressure signs and light smooth bolt lift, load 2 had heavier lift with very small ejector marks, load 3 was the same as 2, and load 4 had no pressure signs. Loads were .5 grains apart. All very accurate. Ive seen this same stuff with different powders and bullet weights as well.

Ive talked to other experienced people about this as well and they have seen it as well.

The best I can think of is the very straight body with very small taper. The saum's and the 6.5 PRC don't do this in my experience.

Anybody have an explanation behind this? Or a cure?
