Re: Independence Through Bold Action

Looks pretty stealthy, although I'm not sure if its stealthy enough to make it through this administration.

Re: Independence Through Bold Action

This is the Navy's newest money pit. It was supposedly designed do what the "High Speed Vessel" HSV-X1 JOINT VENTURE and HSV-2 SWIFT were capable of. Look up the history of these two ships and you'll learn a bit more. But so far the "Freedom" and Independence" have both gone WAY over budget, over WAY time, are incapable of what they were expected to perform. Many of the staff both military and civilian have been fired and releived of command due to all of the above. A little intell: The SWIFT took 10 months to build and only cost 10 million. All they had to do was install the "Navy" equipment. She was capable of 50 knots sustained during sea trials. Set a speed record transiting the bearing straits. She is made completely of aluminum and is so compartmentalized that ships of her design can dare I say run aground and be pulled off and not sink. In short...... they were expendable. The Navy wants to build 50 of the LCS's. They could have built 30 HSVs for the price of one LCS. But hey, what does this old "Squid" know, I used to drive both of them. Talk about sweet. Only 3 bridge watch standers, OOD: at the helm, and radar,Lookout. Navigator: plots and maintains radar, lookout. Engineer Offocer of the Watch (EOOW): runs the plant from the bridge and maintains lookout. There is also an engineering rover. Combat Information Center (CIC):Maintains their(responsibilities) The ship maintains crew served weapons ranging from twin M-2s aft plus MK-19s, forward gyro stabilized MK-96 25mm chain gun amungst a few others. So where are your tax dollars going?

Re: Independence Through Bold Action

Skjold was a nice boat..a prototype..but a nice boat nonetheless..was stationed with it for a short period...
