Re: Info Request: 6.5x47AI

Wheres-Waldo,

The only thing I can suggest is to neck the case up to .277cal to create a false shoulder and to fireform with a snug bolt close. This procedure helps the case form strait.

Let us know how it all turns out.

Roscoe, have you chambered any rifles in this yet?

Im guessing its a newer cartridge.

I ordered a .292" neck and turned down my necks, will just fire-form with a 140 VLD shoved into the lands. Loaded cases measure .289" so hoefully it wont be too fussy about dust/grime, but I can always run the necks a little thinner (my logic atleast).

By cartridge characteristics I was asking if it feeds reliably from DBM?

I'm assuming case stretch is minimal because of the steeper
shoulder (?)

Do you have any velocities for 130/140 VLD's?

Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Info Request: 6.5x47AI

Dude, I totally missed the AI part. I was thinking straight up 6.5x47L. I have chambered several straight up L's but no AI's. Sorry.

I'd think though that the AI version would let you shoot 130/139/140's at a 3,000/2,900ish fps with ease. Close to .260 velocities I'd think.

Re: Info Request: 6.5x47AI

What would you do to make it an AI. Doesn't it allready have a 30 degree shoulder and strait body? Do you just make it a 40 degree shoulder and blow it forward a bit? That would pretty much make it a creedmore with a 40 degree shoulder.

Re: Info Request: 6.5x47AI

The body isnt totaly straight, but pretty close. .011" taper on the body.

Going off of PT&G's reamer print, it has a 45* shoulder thats blown foward just a tad.

Re: Info Request: 6.5x47AI

Interesting. Make sure to take a picture of them side by side for us. Any idea if the pressures will be any different? And for what its worth, I haven't had to trim my cases yet with 7 firings on a standard 6.5x47.

Re: Info Request: 6.5x47AI

Well since there isnt much knowledge on here of the 6.5x47L AI, I'll post information as it comes to me.

I found another gentleman on 6mmbr.com who is running one in a BAT MB/31" Broughton.

6.5x47L ~ 43.7gr Water capacity
6.5x47L-AI~48.4gr Water capacity

Reports 130gr. JLK's @ 2940FPS with Moly.

Re: Info Request: 6.5x47AI

Gives you a general idea of difference between the two.

*Not to exacting demensions*

Both are displayed with same neck O.D. and OAL
