Rifle Scopes Input on USO 15-40 spotting scope please

Re: Input on USO 15-40 spotting scope please

They have a lot of eye relief and aren't bench spotters, great field spotters though. I like mine because the reticle matches my scopes. It seems, from what I have read, that people either like them or don't. If your looking for a bombproof field scope then it will work great for you. If you looking for a traditional style spotter I would look at a Vortex or Konus ... Ziess if you $$$ to burn.

Sapper nailed it. I love mine. Proly one of the first FFP, and you can get it in a reticle to match your scope. This makes it extremely easy for a spotter to make correction calls and vice versa.

Just buy it, you won't regret it.

Hmm...thanks for the input. I am looking for something to see hits on paper out to 300 yards. And hits on steel to 1K.

Can you see 6mm bullet holes at 300 yards? If not then I would need to look for something else.

Thanks you gents for the input.

Take care,Stan

Re: Input on USO 15-40 spotting scope please

Stan, I have used my USO spotter to see .308 holes on a shoot-n-c target at 300. I have also called shots on steel out to 600 yds with it, I dont think you would have any trouble out to 1000, providing the mirage isnt too bad i guess.

Biggest advantages for me is the eye relief for glasses and the mil based reticle that I can use to make adjustments on following shots.

I will be shooting with a few fellow hiders on Friday in Pascagoula. I will bring my USO and see how it does at a 1000. I will update this post after all is said and done.

Re: Input on USO 15-40 spotting scope please

Got to utilize the USO yesterday, here is a report.

0 - 600 yds: It was fairly easy to spot impacts on steel and call out corrections. Even managed to see trace with it, definitely need more practice looking for it though. Mirage wasnt too much of a factor until about 600yds for these ranges.

700 yds: Mirage made it difficult to spot some impacts, although a Nikon Spotter (sorry dont know what model) had the same issues with the mirage.

1000 yds: Could see the target fine (full size IPSC), mirage was really bad at this distance. Could not see most impacts, unless I happened to see the bullet splash on the plate. But I could tell if the plate was swinging after an impact. Also some rounds made a larger "spot" on the plate which I could make out just barely.

So here is my opinion, take it for what its worth.

The USO performed well out to 700yds, but the glass will limit you to anything past that, the clarity is just not there. Had the mirage not been so bad the 1000yd observation would have been easier I believe. Is this a deal breaker for me no it is not, the USO was never meant to compete with the Zeiss Spotter 60 and the like. But it fulfills its purpose of being a durable field spotter, with a ranging reticle, great eyerelief.

Hope this helps

Eric
