My first post! I'm building a relatively inexpensive 500 yard rifle using one of the dicks Black Friday Remington 700 ADL 223 rifles, with a used Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 scope and a Choate Tactical stock. I'm getting it all together and I notice an issue.

The front guard bushing, or the bottom metal that the front action screw goes into is non-existent on the Choate stock. I figure I have to use what came on my stock, no problem. (Choate is closed for the holidays). However the front guard bottom metal is a good bit larger than the hole in the stock for it.

Before I pound the living crap out of the stock I am wondering if I am barking up the wrong tree.

Take the bushing out of the old stock and grind it down since the hole in the stock is not deep enough to accept the bushing as is. Once you've got the bushing where you need it height wise go ahead and give a few taps in with a hammer. I was very surprised at how well the Choate stock was built and much more comfortable over the factory stock..

I ended up drilling a 5/8 hole in a scrap 2x4 with a spade bit to make a jig to hold the ferrel, and then ground it down.
