Im new to the bolt gun game. I purchased a Remington 700 AAC SD Im going to order a new stock. Also I would like to switch it over to a Detachable Mag. Any help on what kit to buy and advice on this being A DIY project or not My skill level is a long way from a gunsmith!

Re: Install a detatchable Mag

HS/P LTR stock, HS/P drop in bottom metal an choice of either 5 or 10rd mags. If you can operate an Allen wrench an read your GTG. I have the same gun as backup to a 22" .308 an have the same metal an mags in both. Never been a problem except, one time I short stroked the bolt, my fault 125%. I cleared/racked it quickly, an still got my targets well under time.

You can go Tacticool, but if you hang long enough the HS/P stuff will show up here, at a fairly reasonable price. Or, you can order it all on line an be up a ready within a few days.

Re: Install a detatchable Mag

you can lookin the used section here and on almost any day there are both DBM and stock available and often both and in many flavors too. RAD, Badger, Accurate and Hooper to name a few ive seen. i dont have a 700 but there is always something for sale. i bought most of my goodies here for my savage, AR or 1911.

Re: Install a detatchable Mag

I like the Badger DBM and it's not that hard to inlet the stock if you take your time. The for sale section is definitely a good place to start.

Re: Install a detatchable Mag

I'm almost certainly going to pick up the same rifle after the New Year and a McRee chassis will be on it's way not long after the 4473 goes through. From all that I've read, other than "heavy", there aren't a lot of negative comments about that chassis and it comes with a DBM system machined into it so that's a very good thing vs. trying to inlet/bed a stock or pay someone to do the work.

Re: Install a detatchable Mag

If it were me, I would choose a site sponsor (Badger, CDI, or the like), then have your stock inletted professionally.

I bought CDI, sent my stock to Jeff, zero problems.
I dont have a Badger DBM, but that may be my next one.

Wyatts, while made in the USA (and right over the hill from me), uses proprietary magazines and I have seen that the mags are out of spec (or a really wide margin for consistency). Some mags are tight, some sloppy, some don't feed right. Just me. I know Les Baer uses them, but that does not mean they are the cats ass.

I chose a bottom metal that used AI mags (as their QC is among the best).

The other option is a Manners stock with Mini Chassis (since this is an SPS tactical and you will want to change the stock anyways).

OF course, full chassis like an AICS or Whiskey-3 is an option as well.

Good choice!
Quality installation, great price, and a quick turn around on mine.

Re: Install a detatchable Mag

Buy either a chassis system or a Manners with mini chassis. You then have the piece of mind that a drop in stock will give you straight from the word go.

Re: Install a detatchable Mag

I have a B&C Medalist A2 stock for my SPS Tactical. Are any of the DBM systems drop in for this combination, or am I going to have to do some inletting no matter what?
