I have been thinking about getting a new barrel for my Rem 700 SPS Tac for a while. During my all expenses paid trip to Iraq I spent my down time reading on every barrel choice I could. I just happened to run across McRees new kit on his site while I was showing someone where I got my stock from. As usual I started the email traffic with Scott with millions of questions. (Still the best customer service I have ever had) Got home and called him and I now have one on order. It's gonna be .308 and a Broughton 5C barrel. Still deciding weather it's going to be threaded and what length its going to be. Can't wait to get it and install it to see what it can do.

A better description of the kit is below. Basically it converts the Remington style to a savage style hookup. Best of both worlds. I will keep this thread updated. I might even take a wack at doing a writeup on the installation.

Mcree's New Rem-age kit

Re: Ordered McRee's new Rem-age barrel kit.

Pac Nor barrels has been doing this for a while(they call it A Rem Nut barrel). I did one in 223 1-7 twist SS and it is a sweet shooting rig.

Re: Ordered McRee's new Rem-age barrel kit.

since I cant see prices or much info on the website, how much?

i just got my McRee stock. I am looking at replacing the barrel, and I dont know who has one in stock, but I havent found any. If this would work, that would be great.

I would keep the barrel I have and cut it down. But, I would like 1-10 and the lefty 700s only come 1-12 in .308

Re: Ordered McRee's new Rem-age barrel kit.

His prices vary on what you want done and what barrel make you want. I just took his last Broughton but he will get more of those, kriegers(sp?) and a third brand. I am not even sure what mine is going to come out to yet.

I am just really intrested in the 5C barrel. Sounds interesting.

Update
Got the kit and installed it. I already had the old barrel pulled off and cleaned. Installation took 5 minutes after I drilled a hole for the pin on the supplied recoil lug. Didn't have time to get to a propper range so I shot in the sand to zero and put a group up. I was shotting in packed sand with a bipod and a bag. The 5 shot group was .567 with FGMM.

Re: Ordered McRee's new Rem-age barrel kit.

Do you know if the nut is compatible with the Savage nut wrench or is the McRee proprietary to the wrench he sells?

eta: If Surgeon would make a floating bolt head I would be all over this like a fat kid on a box of twinkies.

Re: Ordered McRee's new Rem-age barrel kit.

I dont know for sure. I dont have a savage to compare it too. I am guessing that it would be the same. It doesnt look to radical but I have never looked at a savage that close.
