The band that holds the front site blade - arrived today.

My step dad talked about when he sporterized this rifle, he said he had to sweat the front band/sight off - meaning I think he heated it up.

How does it install?

Thinking my gunsmith will be doing this one for me...

Re: Installing an M1903A3 front sight

Military used a tool to press it on that was basically a short piece of pipe. I use a piece of hard wood and a mallet. Oak or hickory are your friend as they will not scratch the finish and don't splinter with shock, at least not easily. Do not use a punch or screw driver. The sight is soft so it will expand as it goes on. The sight will deform if you are not careful. Be sure to start it straight. If it gets crooked tap if off and start over. If you have dry ice or liquid nitrogen you could freeze the end of the barrel and it should just slip on.
