Interesting Chernobyl Pics and History

Re: Interesting Chernobyl Pics and History

kid of speed. i was just thinking about that yesterday. one of the things i recall that really stuck with me was 6 or 7 small children all standing in an exam room in shorts. all had no right arms. a common trait from the radiation. that and reading about people watching the place implode from surrounding buildings and being able to see into the core. those people were dead while they were watching it and just didnt know that

Pretty interesting.

Just curious but has anyone else played any of the call of duty games? (ya im still a teen i still play them) #4 in the series touches in the chernobyl/prypat region and after seeing these pictures im happy that they at least kept one thing in the game somewhat factual and not a bunch of lies like most games are

It cleaned its-self up. Radioactive half-lives. That and a ton of concrete. The only reason people don't live there now is fear.

Upon what do you base that assertion? The area surrounding that plant remains hoplessly contaminated!

Check out just this latter portion of video(the whole thing is excellent if anyone is interested):

There is way more keeping people away from there than simple "fear."

I noticed some of the same. Interesting to see it in pictures and the game it is very very similar.

The half life statement is true to some degree. The energy levels of some of the isotopes is extreamly high and requires 100's of years to decay off to a safe level. I train operators at nuke plants for a career and I also do a 5 hour class on this accident for every initial class. It is truly a shame as why this ever happened and an even greater sad story about how they responded to the accident and the lack of actions not taken to protect the public. If you want to get a knot in your gut have a look at the 1 hour special called the Children of Chernobyl. The genetic faults passed on generations later to the kids is a tear jerker to say the least.

Re: Interesting Chernobyl Pics and History

Chernobyl was capped in concrete by the soviets. The only problem was they didn't make it they type of concrete that would shield from the radio Isotope. The whole of western Europe has been effected. The late 90's early 2000 the EU paid Bectel corp to oversee the recapping of Chernobyl with leaded concrete, that would shield against the Isotope. My X's father was a big policeman and shortly after the accident he moved family to southern Russia. X's sister has large benign adnoma in her brain due to the exposure as a very small child. The girl has to take meds to control the growth of the adnoma. If memory serves me they lived in Kiev at the time.
