Hey all
im Dean, served 4 years in the infantry in the corps and done 2 combat tours in iraq. one as a saw gunner and one as a team leader. i am a fundamentally good shooter but would like all you salt-dogs to compose a list of the components of shooting in order of importance/affect on the end-result downrange... I just kinda wanna know what everyone thinks. Im blown away at the people who "know" what the coriolis effect is but don't know npoa or breathing or timing your heartbeat or anything like that. just goes to show you video games (ie COD) are bad....thanks in advance

Re: interesting little question

1. familiarity with the equipment, safe firearm handling, and patience. if one doesn't know what that knob does, or the effect of turning that screw, chances are they will not understand:

tied for 2nd? breathing, trigger squeeze, eye alignment, fitting the crease, loading the bipod, overexcessive torque with the grip, follow through, recoil absorbtion for a more efficient follow up shot / rechambering.

tied for 3rd? effects of wind, canting, cosine, environmental factors effect on rifle optics and ammo, mirage, range estimation, "dope" and range math to compenasate for the before mentioned trajectory / bullet path variables.

Re: interesting little question

Question asked and answered, ad naseam.

Look around, you'll find more answers with 'search' than you'll get by asking for it all at once. For a first post, this one's a doozie.

Welcome to The 'Hide, Dean; and S/F, Marine.

Re: interesting little question

I know the depth of this question. I was more looking for a quick rundown of the fundamentals and which ones have more effect on
medium range shooting. I am teaching a couple people including my girlfriend how to go from plinker to marksman and it's more difficult to teach someone than to just talk about it to others that already know! So kudos to those who teach...lowlight and those associated with him on here! It's harder than I thought... Thanks guys.

Re: interesting little question

I've found that when I teach, I almost always learn more than the student. You have to have a much greater understanding to articulate and explain rather than just to comprehend for yourself.
