I'd like to take the time and introduce myself. My name is Mike I live in the Phoenix AZ area I make performance parts for Mercedes-Benz AMG's. I'm pretty new to long range shooting, However I'm finding it to be the most satisfying and hardest shooting I've done. I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions maybe you guys can help out with as time goes on.

My currant long gun is a Savage Model 10 cambered in .308 Sitting on a XLR Evolution chassis as of yesterday. Currant optics are a Leupold VX3 8.5-25x50. However I was having some trouble learning the Varmint reticle. So as of 20 minutes ago I scored a Nightforce NSX 5.5-22x56 For what seemed like a smokin deal from one of those huge outdoorsman superstores. Pretty excited about the new glass.

My other guns consist of an Narinco AK47 and an IMI Baby Eagle .40cal. Coming from the performance car industry. I can't level well enough alone. Everything I have has to be modded out. From cars, guitars, all of my guns, to ATVs. Heck even my cell phone has a new ROM installed on it.

Got a question for you guys. When I bought this Savage 308 from Cabela's I also bought the Leupold, and all the hardware to install it. Cabela's did the mounting and bore sighting of the leupold for me. Now that I have a Nightforce arriving Friday that is now 56mm as opposed to the leupold's 50mm objective. Rather than go out and buy a new set of scope mounts. Do they make a taller rail or mounts the rings attach to that will raise the glass up to fit a 56mm objective. Right now with my 50mm on the Leupold I got about space about the size of a Sharpie marker line from the scope to the heat barrel cover on the XRL chassis. IF you guys could point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

Re: Introducing myself

Welcome to the hide.

You'll want a 20 MOA base anyhow so you'll need to pick that up. Also IIRC the NF has a 30mm tube while the Leupold VX3 is a standard 1" so you'll need new rings regardless.

Zak Smith (a member here) has a very good guide to long range shooting that will help. Part 2 and 3 are there as well.
Practical Long Range shooting Part 1 - equipment obviously you've got your gear but he goes on to talk about concepts as well.

Re: Introducing myself

hey welcome hooley

one thing i wanted to ask:
isnt that reddot riding to high for a proper cheek weld?
id trash this upper handguard and get a utimak

other than that, nice weapons...
i guess one doesnt need more than what you have shown there

Re: Introducing myself

Yes, you may need a new set of rings. If you have the option of the 50mm objective on the NF scope, then you might want to go that route. The price is the same. Welcome to the Hide.
