Rifle Scopes ior 10 x 42 or 16 x42 to 1000 yards

Re: ior 10 x 42 or 16 x42 to 1000 yards

If it is a Super Sniper, go with the 10x42. The 16x starts to bring out the shortcomings in the glass quality at the price point.

If I were to have a fixed scope, it would be a 10x, not a 16x, but if you are ONLY shooting at 1000 yards, I would probably go with 16x, though the 10x is still capable.

I shot a 12" disk at 940 with my 16x SS. I love my scope and don't know why everyone down grades the higher magnification SS. The 10x will do the job but it was much easier to see with my 16x. I could have probably moved the target back to 1400 yards and still have been alright.

Good luck,
Merritt

I like higher magnification. But, remember this is a fixed scope you are talking about. So there is THAT to consider. The downside of higher magnification is you can't get on target easily. With a variable scope, just dial down and get on. You cant do that with a fixed power.

I don't think Id be happy with a fixed power scope on a tactical rifle. Just too many circumstances where I want to dial down.

Can you still get the IOR fixed 16x? I had one a few years back and it was very good in all aspects , just a bit heavier than I would have liked for a fixed scope. I have always liked a 16x scope it seems ideal for me. I would recomend the 16x but it depends on what you are shooting at , will 10x be enough to do what you need?

IOR's glass and MP-8 is so much better that I find it easier to make hits w/ an old IOR 6x42 than a Leupy VarX-3 4-14 at 14x on ground squirels. I have several friends that feel the same and still run the IOR 6x and 10x but now mostly on M1A's and FALs. I know of 2 guys that took IOR's and LRB M25's w/ JAE's to FTA's LR Rifle class. One w/ a 6x42 and the other w/ the 10x56. At a private range in Redlands were the class was they were both hitting steel at 1200yds. Lesser magnification w/ superior glass is actually an advantage.
