what exactly is the difference between them all? what issues/problems were corrected? Does anyone have any information on this? It seems like the first gens were to avoid, second gens were hit or miss and 3rd were good to go. Is my assumption correct?

thanks

P.S. does anyone know if there's an armored/thickly padded scope cover that can go on top of a scope to help further protect it?

+1 to Bill's post.

The short version is that the FFP assembly would go "tits up" and you couldn't focus any longer at more than possibly the one magnification you were on. That was GEN1 and some Gen II's. From what I've experienced is GEN 3 has resolved the issue. I had a Gen II, crapped out, Scott assisted got my new Gen III within about 1 week and all has been golden since.

I have an old SFP 3-18x I'm about to put up for sale at the middle of november. still with box and warranty paper. Has a scratch on the tube but otherwise is built like a damn tank. Still rocking and ticking solid. Going to get the 3-18x SH edition and I'm just curious if it's as reliable and solid. I have no doubt I could blow this puppy up with tannerite like lowlight did with the Razor HD but I'm not sure about the SH version. It's the reason why I ask about problem corrections.

I have one of the older ones and its never given me a lick of trouble . I put it up for sale but nobody is really interested in it as its an earlier generation . I figure if it takes a dump I get a new gen 3 so it didn't really bother me .

Still running one of the origional gen 1s and it is perfect. My gen 2 died a sudden death but was replaced quickly and is still going strong. Even thinking about getting just one more for another project.

I have the first generation and it's been on a few different rifles, 338 Lapua, 300WSM and now 308. I'm not exactly sure how many rounds total now but I've had no problems. I also bought another in the for sale section off another hide member. I love the scope. I would buy another, I just can't due to the Holidays on the way and awaiting for another GAP build. But I probably will buy another next year for my next badger build.

Its still running GREAT!!!!

I truly think the Gen 1 issue was the TPS/IOR rings that came out free with them.

I had a 34mm and a 35mm that was shipped as the same set. I has the 34mm lapped up to a 35mm and still using this set of rings and they are running great ever since.

BTW,

This optic has been on GAP 700 .308win, AR-15 .223, DPMS LR-308 and a Rem700 300WM.
