I have an oppertunity to purchase this scope from a local gun shop for 1350.00 out the door. They are also going to mount it up on high rings and site it in to 100 yards for me. The specs are as follows. it has illumination and MP8 rec, 35mm tube as well. He says it is last years modle so he is blowing them out. Is this a good deal or am i getting put togather? I really wasnt expecting to spend this much on glass but I'm putting it on a AR-10 sass. What your opinions? I have looked around alot and this seems to be a pretty good deal. but I'm very very new to the AR game.
Thanks in advance.

Re: IOR 3-18x42 ?

Good scopes (save some reliability problems with gen 1 and 2 SH edition FFP models), but the lack of tube real estate behind the erector on some of them can limit scope positioning for proper eye relief... You might want to make sure you can get acceptable head position and sight picture with it on 18x. (if not, might be able to solve it with the right mount).

Also, make sure it has the features you want. If it is illuminated, it probably is not FFP. Just make sure you know what you are getting...

If you can get proper eye relief with your rig and don't need illum, I fully endorse the 3-18x42 FFP Gen4 "Sniper's Hide Edition". Call up Liberty Optics and get the 'Hide price -- you'll get rings, free shipping, and I bet it won't be much if any more than your gun shop special... and you get FFP, Mil/Mil, etc.

Re: IOR 3-18x42 ?

I love mine, perfect scope for an AR308 (as long as you don't plan on carrying it very far). I would get a 4th gen model from libertyoptics (he has some in the clearance section). Otherwise get the 3-18X50. Go for the high rings too. Eye relief will not be a problem on a flattop AR.

Another scope I really like is the razor HD, I see them used for 1600ish.

Re: IOR 3-18x42 ?

Well I just wanted to say thanks to all that posted on this question. I have been in contact with scott at Liberty Optics and placed my order today for the IOR 3.5-18X50 FFP. I still cant believe i spent 1800 on a scope but there is a first for everything. I will give a review when I recieve the glass next week and again after I shoot it.
