Just got my new IOR 3-18 x 44. Just wondering about the parallax adjustment.

On my MKIV the scope is very unfocused unless parallax is set correctly. My NF is just a little out of focus but the IOR is clear no matter where the knob is set. Am I missing something or should I stop worrying about it. I haven't gotten out to shoot it yet so I don't know if the knob is even doing anything other than just spinning.

    Re: IOR parallax ?

You can test the parallax by looking through the scope at your target and moving your eye from side while adjusting the side focus knob. What you are looking for is the reticle to move little or stop moving. That's when you know the parallax is dialed out as much as possible.

    Re: IOR parallax ?

Different optical designs can result in differing depths of field even at the same distance and power (you are checking at 18X right?).

I seem to remember the 3-18X42 having a pretty deep one, but the only way to know if the knob is doing its job is to actually check for parallax at different distances.

    Re: IOR parallax ?

This is a known problem with that scope and from time to time a few will pass qc with this error. I don't believe the manufacturer will assist you satisfactorily but I am willing to help you out. I'll give you a $100 for it, as is.

    Just let me know.

    Re: IOR parallax ?

My Vortex Viper would go out of focus if the parallax wasn't just right. When I first got my IOR 3-18SFP, I thought the parallax was broken too. It just doesn't seem to make that much of a difference when holding in your hand and looking out the window. Once properly mounted and looking at a target, then you should notice it working. Mount it first and then if it still doesn't seem to work, contact IOR or your dealer.

Hmmm, tempting. Let me get back to you on that. Thanks!

Already mounted. Maybe I should have asked the question differently.

    Yeah right!

    Re: IOR parallax ?

Like BCP mentioned, at the lower powers the parallax had almost no visible effect. I guess you've probably already looked through all the powers though. That's about all of my experience with the IOR since I traded it a while back. Good luck.
