Are IR lasers and rangefinder lasers target indicators on the modern battle field?

Im pretty sure the vectronix and raptor rangefinders are on a different spectrum than most commercial range finders so maybe that makes them harder to detect?

    Yes.

The PEQ2 and PEQ15 as well as other things like the IZLID are used to indicate not only enemy positions but to communicate the 'where' to people at night. Simple example would be the SL telling a fireteam to get on the corner on the west of the house over there...ok, which house? During the day he'd be able to provide more detail (house color, roof type, next to the orange truck, whatever) but at night that doesn't work so well. Instead he can give the order and then flash the location area with his IR laser to give a much better idea of what he's thinking.

Same thing for when you spot an enemy location at night and trying to talk people into where they are just isn't easy at all; flash the position with IR to mark it.

Spotter/shooter at night is the same; one sees something, marks it with IR for the other for PID and to work out the engagement.

Only thing you need to be aware of is that sometimes there may be instructions as to NOT use any IR unless you're engaged as well as figuring out ahead of time ways to identify whose IR light is whos; they may covers for the PEQ for this as well as the rule I always had was the guy designating positions/giving orders had his laser on the high setting as it would make it very obvious to everyone.

If I remember right, a while back when the PEQ2A was new, there was some sort of 'high tech' laser pointer that was used with this in mind.

Hajji figures out how to use commercial video cameras to see in the near infrared spectrum, which makes things more complicated. The military is investing more in the ability to engage without energy emissions.

Was being done with cell phone cameras. HaJi figured that out 10 years or better ago.
Any Walmart low light home security camera sees them.

Your wife's bf has a Walmart security system, cameras on the perimeter. N u follow her wanting pics, but u cant see in the shadows, so u turn on your peq15, so your atn-ps22 will "see".... u busted as soon as they look at the monitor....
Moral of that story is dont have a wife with a boyfriend.. just sayin...
