or is there any difference. Can probly get Sheriff to sign but just wondering if it'll be quicker to get a it back if a trust is done. Stupid question I know.

I don’t think there is much of a difference either way. I have read of several people getting their fingerprint cards kicked back due to not being clear enough. Obviously you don’t have this issue with a trust.

There is less running around once the trust is set, but there usually isn't much difference between processing times.

I've heard if you do a trust people in the trust such as your family, can use the suppressor, or something of the sort? I believe i'll be going the trust route. My father believes he knows the CLEO well enough to get a signature, but a sheriff i know said the cheif wouldn't approve of SBRs and suppressors for him. And he is LE. So i'll be taking the trust route.

The nature of a living trust usually makes it so any trustee can modify the trust at any time. You should be absolutely sure you trust these people, or your toys will be gone without your word.
But yes, members listed as trustees on the trust can be in possession of the can or other items without you being present.

Hey BlackOps, where you at in MS? I'm down in Jackson County/Ocean Springs area. Never had any issue with any Form 4 signatures from the Sherriff (several suppressors/sbr)
#1) It ain't an approval sig, it's a FYI for the CLEO.
#2) It's your constitutional right.
If the Sherriff won't sign, you can look at the DA or Judge as well.
Good luck with the process and I hope you get a 3 week turnaround.
I'm with the TrooperBrian on the "trust" portion of trustee. My stuff is locked up when I'm gone. Those who haven't paid for/endured the process tend not to respect the gear the same way as you will. I just don't like anyone fiddlin' with stuff when I'm not there to supervise. Hah! If you can't get Jody to leave you any money for the light bill, how's he going to respect your NFA Gear???

Thanks guys..I think I'll just go the CLEO route. He signed one for a buddy of mine and is a pretty good friend of the family. Prints should be good as I just got back my CCW permit and they gave me two copies of the prints when I had them done.

I'm in Clarksdale, small town 3 hours from jackson, an hour from memphis, TN. My father would be the only one in the trust. I still have a year before i'll be able to get everything in motion.

IMO, buying as an individual is the best possible way because there is the least amount of paperwork to do, the F4 has your name on it, and there's nothing else to do or think about, ever again.

Actually paperwork is less with a Trust, the Form 4 doesn't need a photo or law enforcement certification like an individual does. As to getting a Trust drafted, is not difficult, nor expensive, and the benefits are better in the long run. As to the notion that other people in the Trust can use the property, well it depends on how you have it drafted.

My experience less time with a trust. Reason is no finger print cards have to go to FBI for check. Last examiner I spoke with told me FP checks taking 1.5 months on average. Can't say for certain if she was BS'ing me but makes sense. Last NFA I did one as an individual the other a trust. I sent both same day, trust back just about 1.5 months ahead of individual, same examiner.
