My understanding is that it has nothing to do with the brass and is about narrowing the distance between the firing pin and the firing pin hole to reduce cratering.
If you're reloading and getting cratering too soon on your pressure curve then it's probably necessary. But if you haven't noticed any unreasonable cratering then I wouldn't worry about getting it done.

I found out a long time ago that you can't eat paper targets or steel plates, so there was no reason to "fire wall" or trying to make magnum's
out of anything but magnum's.
While closing up the empty space between pin and body certainly helps, reducing the total distance the primer material must span unsupported and still hold up to the pressure is the real benefit of a small firing pin for small primers.
