I have a new ag composites carbon fiber stock which I really like, but it has sling studs in the front and back. Is there a way to convert them to flush cups, or add flush cups in a different location?

If you're concerned about hogging out a hole then there are options for flushcups. "Heavy Duty" flushcups are probably what you're after, but they make a "standard," smaller version too which will probably remove less material on the stock.

The HD flush cups have an option that is not threaded on the OD (No. GTHM234) which requires only a 1/2" hole to be drilled, not threaded, and is secured with a separate screw in the bottom. This is likely the least invasive option for replacing the existing studs in your CF stock so long as the screw has something besides foam to grip.

FWIW, the depth of the holes drilled for the threaded HD cups can be reduced to about ~.375" if the cup is likewise shortened to that length.

Cutting into the CF shell on the side, all bets are off. Of course, a call to AG Composites wouldn't hurt, they know what the internal cosntruction of their product is and whether or not it's appropriate to be drilling holes in it.

A grovetec flush cup (and there’s really no reason to use anything else) takes a 1/2” diameter hole that’s 1/2” deep, flat bottomed (Forstner bit), that’s then tapped 9/16-18 UNF.

Which stock did you get? I recently got and have been fiddling with an adjustable Chalk Branch.

I got the Alpine Hunter and really like it. It feels really well made, light, and looks great.

in the linked thread, the op shortens spade drill bits.... would cabinet maker drill bits work better?

They cut a flat hole- similar to an end mill
