Is Lapua Brass a waste of money for an AR-15?

Re: Is Lapua Brass a waste of money for an AR-15?

The AR platforms are capable of excellent accuracy when properly built and configured. If you are looking for match grade ammunition then there is no reason not to get Lapua brass. But for the price I'd rather just pick-up lake city.

Re: Is Lapua Brass a waste of money for an AR-15?

Surely would be for me, but I shoot 4 to 5 thousand a year.
Lapua stuff is good, but expensive. Their last price hike has really turned me off on their products.

I guess if you have the coin, and are getting 98% brass retention, it might last a long time????

my AR fucks up my brass pretty good upon ejection , i dont think i'd waste the money, not that that accuracy isnt there, all my AR's just do a number on the necks.

Re: Is Lapua Brass a waste of money for an AR-15?

I wouldn't. I've had too much success with NATO headstamp stuff, Lapua is expensive, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna FLS Lapua each firing.

I use it at 600 in my service rifle, but true be known I do not see a difference. I am going to be using a Bolt gun next year and I will be using it then alot.

Re: Is Lapua Brass a waste of money for an AR-15?

You might consider buying Lapua brass for an AR a little excessive if your intention is plinking ammo and shooting thousands of rounds. That being said, buying Lapua brass is never a waste of money as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Is Lapua Brass a waste of money for an AR-15?

If you get a adjustable gas block I wouldn't be scared of lapua brass, when I backed the gas block back on mine It didn't beat the brass up as bad.

Re: Is Lapua Brass a waste of money for an AR-15?

Lapua brass would be worthwhile in a bolt gun, but not in an AR15, unless you were attending something like a national match, or another really important match.

At a match where you can't retrieve your brass, loosing 80-100 cases of Lapua brass would really hurt unless you were rich.

In my opinion, yes. Buy the LC when it's on sale; strong, annealed, and can be bought right. Winchester is also very good and very consistent, just my .02.

Natchez has a good deal on new LC going on now. Link

Brownell's/Sinclair does have Lapua "on sale" right now, but for an AR that Lake City is where it's at.
