Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

is this new or new to you used ? the whole bolt head looks nasty to me just my .02 but it dose look like it would be safe to fire if it is mew i would take it back

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

I don't see any dent in the part of the bolt face that I can see. I do see a ding on the edge of the bolt nose; as long as if doesn't interfere with the bolt recess in the barrel, IMO it's nothing to worry about.

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

Buddy of mine had a brand new sps...had the same "dent" on the bolt nose, he had some plenty of issues with chambering factory rounds. Out of a box of 20 he was able to get about half of em to chamber. He sent it back to remington...

Not saying you're gonna have the same issue, I just remember seeing the same dent on the bolt nose. Could be pure coincidental.

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

That bolt, or at least the picture makes that bolt look far from new. If it is in fact factory new it is either in rough shape or your photo makes it appear that way.

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

In person it doesn't look bad aside from the ding. The picture just makes it look bad. I don't know how hard it will be to have this exchanged/repaired because I bought it online and had it sent to a local dealer.

Is it causing a problem? No problem = no problem.

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

Like I said, I haven't shot it, and I don't even have ammunition yet so I can't test it at all. Even if it's just cosmetic it doesn't belong on a $1000 brand new gun...

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

Yeah that bolt dont look new at all, the area around the extractor looks worn down like crazy. Looks like u got an old bolt with a new gun maybe

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

If it's not causing a problem I wouldn't worry about it. If your gonna have that receiver trued and he trues the bolt face you will never know it was there.

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

It looks like it was dropped somwhere along the line. If it bothers you send it in to Remington, if you call their customer service they will send you a shipping label. Just be prepared to wait a while to get it back.

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

I wouldn't be so much concerned with the dent on the bolt face as the gouge on the anti-bind slot at the aft end of the right lug.

Looks like shitty work.

Re: Is my new Remington 700 bolt damaged/defective?

It looks ugly, but that part don't matter a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.

The top of the bolt doesn't effect feeding and the dings don't look large enough to interfere with operation. As long as the back of the lugs look good, I would just shoot it.

BTW, the "gouge" in the anti-bind slot is normal. This one looks a little rougher than average, but that cutout is a design feature not a defect.

The bolt doesn't look worn. It just looks like it has been sitting somewhere for awhile. It also looks like it's been dropped.
