I'm looking at buying either a Nightforce NXS moar-t 5.5-22x56 or the Nightforce ATACR moar-t 5-25x56. The ATACR is going to cost me 300 dollars more and I'm wondering if it worth the extra money. I've never owned a Nightforce so if anyone could help I would appreciate it.

To ask if something is "worth it" is very subjective. Only you can know that. It depends on the value you place on the features on the ATARC vs NXS

1) 20% more elevation
2) Wider FOV
3) Zero stop comes standard (not sure if you've already figured that into the $300 difference)
4) Shorter by 1"

I said yes it definitely is. The biggest thing for me was the glass. Look through both and make your own decision. I think the ATACR may hold its value a little better than the nxs right now also.

I also have several NXS and 1 ATACR at this time soon to ad another ATACR in my opinion it is absolutely worth the extra money. I am not sure where you are looking to buy your new scope from but the vendors here on the HIDE willtreat you right and save you money check them out. The glass is great the elevation adjustment with the right mount can get you out to ELR ranges I think if you don't spend the money now you will probably end up wishing you did.

I have shot NXS scopes since they came out, and also a lot of high end scopes (eg. S&B PMII, Zeiss, Hensoldt). The ATACR is definitely worth the extra money for the better glass alone. Definitely puts the NXS glass in the back seat and brings you closer to the big dollar glass. I do not even care to look through NXS scopes anymore. The shorter body, additional elevation, 25x versus 22x, is the icing on the cake. You definitely get more scope going from an almost $2000 scope to a little over $2300 scope.

How is the ATACR as far as a forgiving eye box vs a nxs?

I do not have any issues at all with the ATACR's eyebox shooting paper, matches, or steel, from short to ELR. The ATACR's eyebox is a little tighter at high power than the 22x NXS at high power, but it is still easy to get on the target with a full clear field of view.
I have shot a couple different 32x NXS scopes and have always had issues with their eyebox being overly sensitive on high power. The ATACR eyebox is definitely more forgiving than the 32x NXS.

What about 25x AtACR vs 25X NXS 8-32? Set on the same power...how does the eye box compare?

The 8-32 NXS has a little more eye relief than the ATACR, but my eyes actually prefer the eyebox of the ATACR at 25x over the NXS 8-32 set at 25x. Is this because of my particular eyesight? Because the 8-32 NXS has a longer body? I do not know.
It sure would be nice to hear from someone else who has both of these scopes, give us their opinion.

Since getting my first ATACR, I've sold:

2X NF 5.5-22x50 NXS
1X NF 8-32x56 NXS

All have been replaced by the ATACR.

I don't mean to diminish at all in any fashion the scopes I sold. They're great scopes. The ATACR is simply better - and for not that much more $$$. The ATACR represents superlative bang for the buck.

I have (3) 5.5-22X56 Nightforce scopes (NP-R1) and one ATACR and I notice the difference in glass which makes it a better scope plus the other benefits (more range of elevation, etc as stated here). It also looks better on a large rifle like the 82A1 due to the 34mm tube. This is not to put down the excellent NXS line because it is still an amazingly great scope. Just that the ATACR is a better buy. I am selling my NXS series for the ATACR if anyone is interested.

I do have one question as I thought that when I mounted my ATACR it said "Made in Japan", is this true or am I confused?

+1 on worth every penny... Have one and it is well worth it. Since I purchased mine, one close friend has purchased same scope and another buddy is buying later this month. For the glass and confidence in your elevation/windage plus shorter package, win win win.

Buy once, cry once... And then you won't have to play the "I wish I would have..." game. :)
