I just got back from my local gun shop, and when I walked into the new add on a gun caught my eye. A remmy 700, in a grey marble color stock with 16.5" brrl, said on gun stores tag "Rem 700 .308 18"SPS $699 1/10" I asked to hold it and info on it, and he said it came in yesterday from Sports South. Was a very sweet lil gun, and caught my eye because of my 20"5R, and I knew it was shorter just by looking at it. I can't find any info on rem's site about it. It had a thread protector, same black finish. I am confused.
Also he said he just got in a m 78 Rem on trade, looked very good for age, and if I remember their was a remmy, other than the 700, that was known for accuracy, but can't remember it. Anybody gotta clue

Here it is

Re: Is there a new Rem 700 I missed???

I bet it was a 16.5. It was awful sweet feeling. I reached for my phone to take a pic, and I'll be darned if I didn't leave it in the car.
The 788 was a different gun, used, no tax for $450, with a 2 piece base, but that short brrl caught my eye real quick.

Yup that's the gun, 16.5" 308 on the site. Price was $699 but said probably take $20 off. Talk about a dang good hunting rig.
Thanks guys, didn't know that existed.
BTW it was a 78 custom. (Prices Creek Store) 828-682-2194 I think? Google it

I want it bad, but I'd have to sale a Wilson Combat 6.8 custom AR rig with Geissele DMR, UBR, WC buis/ Custom Addax Tac 6.8, PWS Brake, BHW barrel, Geissele, both 18" mid's, and both with less than 10rds down the tube, or my DD with MRF rail, JP trigger vltor stock, 16" middy, also with 3 shots fired.

The Sports South website doesn't show a 18" SPS but it does show .308 and .300 AAC Blackout 700s with a 16.5" barrel. I'd love to see a picture of one of these, that would have to be a very handy rifle.

Thanks for the link, I texted it to my FFL to get one ordered! It meets the specs for my next rifle perfectly. I'll have it blueprinted, a new chamber, and touch the crown if need be. I have a short action m40 stock that I've done a lot of work to, which has no home yet. Top it off with a new SS 10x42 mil/mil and it'll make a great little truck gun!

I handled the 16" 308 version at a gun show recently and it was stamped 1:10" on the barrel.

Man, you guys... I'm still a newbie to all of this, but the 16.5" barrel really intrigues me. Seems like the perfect all around North American game hunting rifle which I'm currently shopping for.

I need to find one of these.

2.) I'm not certain how accurate this data is, but according to this link...the rifling twist says 1:7

You linked to the .300 blackout version, which needs a pretty fast twist.
