Im trying to adapt my base hole drilling fixture for drilling dual recoil lug pins. Id like to be able to indicate off my fixture and know where to put them exactly. I will draw up the fixture in CAD to know exactly where the action is positioned in order to locate the holes.

Take a look at my fixture, Im going to mill a flat on the bottom where I can bolt a piece at a 90 so it will stand straight up in the mill. I custom made the bolts, they are a tight fit into the reamed holes in theplate, and the threads are a tight fit into the action so that it sits in there perfectly vertical every time.

If there is no standardized location for dual pins I guess I just come up with something arbitrary and have the lugs custom made?

I would make a short plug that fits the reciever tenon and then coaxial indicate it in, then move -Y however far you want and go from there. for the lug set it off parallels coaxial indicate in and move matching -Y and drill again.

Some builders like to use two smaller pins rather than one. I guess that way the structure of the receiver is not as affected.

If you're going to do your own spacing, I've thought that an asymmetrical arrangement would prevent the lug from getting flipped around.

Having two allows the action to be re-barreled and re-installed in the same glass bedded stock without issue.

having one pin is good enough to allow a rifle to be rebarreled and put back into the same bedding. having two pins helps prevent shearing of cheap pins though.

I agree with this approach, as the pin hole locations should be based on the center of the bolt way. Generally, unless you have a custom action with a cylindrically ground OD, using a fixture that references the OD will place your pin holes in a different place from one receiver to the next.

Locate the center of the bolt way as described by Skog (although I made a fixture to do this), and locate two pin holes at .4278" centers (for a 1.35" receiver ring). There are already a few recoil lugs out there with pin hole locations that are compatible with this setup.
