Gunsmithing Is this barrel "threadable"?

I picked up this derringer the other day just because I thought it was interesting. I don't intend to carry it or use it for anything important, but I thought it was fun.

I have a 45 osprey that the form 4 just cleared on and I should be taking home in a day or two. Silencerco said that .45 long colt was fine as long as it was jacketed bullets.

So, My question. Is it practically possible to thread this barrel and use it with my suppressor? I just thought it would be cool. you don't usually see a suppressed derringer-- and there might be a reason. BTW-- I obviously wouldn't shoot .410 shells through the suppressor.

what is the wall thickness of the muzzle end? On those type barrels, I'm guessing it's fairly thin.

your suppressor? No. You couldn't use a typical baffle system suppressor on it...need a little custom work due to the wad. Now the pistol cartridge may work...still don't think your suppressor would work.

The end of the barrel is 0.810" -.452=.358 /2= .179 wall thickness at the muzzle. I would not be looking to ever shoot .410 shells through it-- only .45 long colt plated bullets and they will all be handloaded on the lighter side. I have pistons for 5/8-24, 9/16-24, and .578-28. I thought if possible I would have it threaded for the standard .45 (.578-28) and use the fixed barrel spacer with it. I fully understand that it won't work with .410 shells-- even slugs because of the baffles. will the short barrel pose a problem with the suppressor when using .45 colt?

I'd say that your wall thickness is a bit thin but you might get away with it...expect failure then work around it.

I don't see how barrel length would cause a problem with the suppressor other than erosion. You may consider calling your suppressor manufacturer and see what they have to say.

I would also look into building an insert/baffle system so you could use the 410 shells. Wouldn't be too difficult...a liner tube with a bunch of holes in it, angled, so the wad doesn't catch (think gas ports such as in an semi-auto), with your baffles surrounding that liner.

Silencerco said the short barrel shouldn't hurt. They did say to stick with full jacketed bullets and lighter loads.
