I own an Ops Core Fast SF Super High Cut Ballistic helmet and also an Ops Core Fast SF Bump helmet. I'm running ActInBlack DTNVGs on a Wilcox L4 G22. I'm wondering if that amount of movement I'm getting between the Wilcox and ballistic helmet is normal? The mount locks up very securely in the bump helmet, with only a little bit of play. But on the ballistic it seems excessive. Going to try and attach videos to demonstrate what I'm talking about.

No. That is WAY not normal.

@twh30

Just tried mine. New OC Ballistic Maritime with G24 + PVS-31A. Locks up tight. No play on mount/shroud connection. The *slight* play you see is on the G24 itself.

Wow, I honestly was expecting you guys to tell me it's a little looser than normal, but typical. That's a lot of money for a helmet to "fix" with a piece of foam. What should I do here? Contact Gentex for a new shroud?

That is a huge difference. I could definitely fix this issue with a bit of velcro, but I think I'm going to contact Gentex. Mine is moving way too much.

I was getting the same slop on 2 brand new SF SHC helmets...I talked to Ops-Core about the problem because I really wanted to utilize the built in bungees in their new shroud. They knew about the bad fit and promised they we’re going to send a couple of foam pieces to fix that unacceptable fit, but never did? So I had to change both helmets out to brand new Wilcox shrouds...problem fixed.

I’m probably going to call them back to get replacement shrouds that are manufactured correctly...if they’ll do it?

It wasn’t my two G22’s or G24 they all fit tight, interchangeably with the different helmets that had the Wilcox shrouds.

Update - added velcro to the contact points on the shroud and the mount locks up very nicely now. I added loop to the shroud and didn't even need to put the hook on the Wilcox, just the added material from the loop helped secure it in.

I was looking for a bump helmet upgrade but given this situation I guess Ops Core bumps with the plastic moulded-in mount are a dicey proposition. Guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

@adamjma Actually the ops core bumps with the molded in plastic lock up nicely! I'll try to upload a video of my bump with the wilcox g22 in it today

I think the Ops-Core Helmets are all-in-all outstanding helmets despite this one bungee integrated shroud deficiency and one shouldn’t be detoured from buying one because of the effective work around options are an easy fix.

I have to say, owning Ops Core, Revision, Crye Airframe, TW, 3M, MTek, MICH/ACH and many other ballistic helmets, my fat head now prefers MTek above all others — thanks to Choid!:)

The integrated shroud is a great idea, especially with things like the Crye Nightcap. But it doesn't end up working well, sadly.
