Its in the family......

Re: Its in the family......

One of my earliest memories is being in the desert with my dad, shooting his 22. He would hold it, and I would pull the trigger. I remember having no idea what I was doing, couldn't even see the bottles we were shooting at because I was so short, and they must have been over a rise or something, but I didn't care. I was having a blast shooting that rifle. We moved from AZ when I was three, so that's the oldest I could have been. I used to negotiate ammunition as payment for mowing the lawn, and my dad would take me shooting every few weeks or so. When I was 13 or 14, I convinced him that we should start handloading. I paid for most of it, but he bought the stuff, since I was too young, and I did all the loading. I read the manual cover-to-cover, had no forum to go to for help, nobody I knew to ask things, just had to read and experiment.

It's all been pretty much downhill from there...

Re: Its in the family......

always had something i could shoot. from a crossman pump pistol to a 760 rifle and scope. as soon as i turned 18 i started buying stuff with no direction. finally now i have a nice selection and i just need better glass. my fascination is with the mechanics. ive always been able to take them apart and fix them. fun stuff

Re: Its in the family......

Its funny but one of my earliest memories is the first time I shot a firearm. My dad told me I was around 2 years old or so. He heald a 10 22 for me and can vividly remember holding the rifle like I was shooting it and pulling the trigger. I dont think I have ever had a bigger grin on my face agan. I have been hooked sence. Shooting and hunting has always been a tradition in my family. Everytime we get together we shoot!
Thanks for starting this thread, its very important and I cant wait keep this "family tradition" alive with my girls.

Re: Its in the family......

I got a Daisy Red Ryder on Christmas eve. My aunt had a porclin chamber pot she hung on a fence post to dry during the day. That was too tempting. She got her feet wet that night and I lost my Red Ryder on Chirstmas morning.

My father had a Model 3 Smith 44 Russian (mine now). His grandfather gave it to his father (my grandfather) when he was 12 and left home to work the ranches in Colorado and New Mexico. I took the 44 shells to the basement, lined up some targets and tried to hit them by wacking the shells with a hammer ( I did get close, also got my ass beat).

Use to go squarl hunting with my uncle. Dogs would tree and we'd chop down the tree to shoot the squarl with a single shot 22.

I was in 7th grade when my AF Father was stationed in Eilson AFB. We rented a house on Badger (6 mile) road. There was a 55 gal drum in the basement half full of loose mil '06 ammo. My father went to Special Services on base and checked out a Model 70 Win in '06 and told me and my brother to get rid of the ammo,...........we did but the barrel wasn't worth much afterwards.

I can't remember not being interested in shooting.
