SAFETY
NRA Safety Rules:
1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.

2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
When holding a gun, rest your finger on the trigger guard or along the side of the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger.

3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Whenever you pick up a gun, immediately engage the safety device if possible, and, if the gun has a magazine, remove it before opening the action and looking into the chamber(s) which should be clear of ammunition. If you do not know how to open the action or inspect the chamber(s), leave the gun alone and get help from someone who does.

All rifle muzzles will be pointed up or down when transported, and pointed downrange when at a firing position, or may be pointed in a different direction required by a Range Officer (at staging areas). All rifles will be carried unloaded with either: a colored safety flag, or the bolt removed. All weapons will be loaded on Range Officer command. All weapons will be unloaded on Range Officer command. All weapon handling will be done at Range Officer command.
Rifles will be loaded, pointing down range, and the bolt will be closed when the competitor locates the target and points the rifle at the target.

There has been a spotter, but it will not help you any at all. The spotter wont give you corrections, the spotter is merely looking for impacts to count points

Re: J.S.T. 12 June 2010 match!!!!!!!!!!!

John,

I'm looking forward to the match. In prepping my gear I have a couple questions:

1. Do most competitors carry their pistol on them (holstered) or are the pistol stages separate from the rifle?

2. You say competitors must have 20 rounds of rifle ammo on them at all times. So if you are carrying two 10-rounds mags when you start the stage, then you insert one in the rifle and shoot 5 rounds, you technically don't have 20 on you anymore. I know this is a picky question but I've never shot your match before so I just want to make sure I understand how this part works.

Thanks.

Re: J.S.T. 12 June 2010 match!!!!!!!!!!!

socket70,

Yes, if you have the rounds on you in a mag, and you load and shoot some, when you are done just go and reload.

The point of that rule, is; you will not know what you must do until you are at the firing line.

So I do not want some one to show up with there ammo in there car.

Please ask away if you have anymore questions.

Re: J.S.T. 12 June 2010 match!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh,

Lets say separate and we will stick with that.

I really do not know. Glen and I put the match together the night before.

Thats when we come up with everything.

Outsydlooknin75,

You are not fat, just pleasantly plump.

As I tell people at work, for my first 19 years of life I expanded vertically, my last 50years I plan on horizontal growth.

So long as I can shoot and not bust any stitches, I'll consider it a win. All I'm doing is posting on the Hide and reloading ammo. You should see the pile of rounds I've got here!

Me and Jeremy are hitting the pines in Olivia next week, if you want to burn some of those up. He's got a four wheel drive and killer targets. Glad you're doing well.

I have to practice extra hard for this one cuz I don't wanna get beat by a guuuurl.

Anybody know the dope at 500 for a 10-22 carbine with a flat rail and a 50 yard zero? From what I've heard there is no need for me to take any chances.

Your rifle, dope, and mildot master are the main things needed.
