On the James River Armory website, they list their 1903A4 as having been restored by Rock Ridge Machine Works. I would like to know if Rock Ridge Machine Works also does the restorations on the other 1903 Springfields that James River Armory offers. I certainly hope not. On a side note, I have somewhat noticed that the C-stocks used on the JRA rifles feel smaller than the original C-stocks I have handled. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is?

I used to own a JRA 1903a4. That rifle was head and shoulders above the Gibbs Rifle I had before that. The JRA was an impressive piece of work, with amazing fit & finish, with, IMO, a fair bit of attention to detail; but that was also 2 years ago. I didn't realize on their website they are now back in stock, as I haven't been there in a wile. I would hope their quality of product and service is the same as it was then, as I still regret selling that rifle, but alas, I've lived, and learned. LOL! Good news to hear they are back in stock; why do you have issue with Rock Ridge Machine Works?

I have no problem with Rock Ridge Machine Works. The reason I stated that was because I handled a non-A4 Springfield by James River Armory and the re-finish work was subpar. I want a Rock Ridge Machine Works rifle and I am hoping the rifle I handled wasn't rebuilt by them.

Sorry, I misread your comments I guess. I thought it sounded like you hoped Rock Ridge didn't work on any more rifles. Like I said, my only experience was from a couple of years ago, and I loved the product then; can't say anything about now. Sorry for your subpar rifle you received now; no matter who does the work, getting a rifle that fails to meet expectations sucks. :\

I've got a JRA 1903A3 and when comparing it to my RIA M1903, other than the obvious age difference the stocks don't seem different to me. I'm surprised to hear that you thought the finish was subpar on your JRA. The finish on my Remington is awesome. I just finished making my front sight so hopefully I can take it out soon and see what she really does at 100 yds.

Just to clarify, I did not purchase the JRA rifle. I handled one and was not impressed with the quality of the work. The finish was even but rough and sharp. I would compare it to a Remington 700 SPS. It was also that weird bright gray color that you see on their rifles from time to time.
