Anybody got any recommendations on a guide or place to go shoot some of these little dudes? Preferably in Texas, I guess, I think that is the closest I'll find one to AR.

san carlos is good, but not necessary, you can draw almost anywhere in AZ pretty easily and kill. I honestly don't think it is probably worth it for you to come out here and hunt them though.

before spring time, but there are a few fall hunts as well...the rifle season is February 19-25 this year, HAM = February 5 -14 and Archery is Jan 1 to 21st

South Texas is where you want to go. Here is typical for the South 50 counties

No closed season. Bag Limit: 2 per license year.</span>

I actually don't mind the taste of the little buggers. Bone em out, toss them in a slow cooker with some bbq sauce for half a day, eat on some big buns.

Word of caution to you married guys.... Do not cook these little bastards in the house when your wife is home. Your azz will be sleeping outside for a few nights. They stink like hell, even when cooking.

Re: Javelina Hunts - Anybody got any recommendatio

I used to shoot these nasty little animals all over West Texas, but I had permission to pass on a lot of ranches back then. In summer they can carry rabies. Seriously. We shoot them , and let them lay or use them to bait coyotes, or mountain lions. Wear gloves, and throw the gloves away.

I documented a case when the old guy beat one to death after it latched onto his ankle, and wouldn't let go. it charged him from the mesquite, bit him and locked down, worrying the ankle like a pit bull. He had been digging a hole, out on the pasture (about 30 miles from his HQ) so he used the shovel to beat the animal to death, then used the handle to pry the teeth out of his shin bone. Tough old guy (78 year old Mexicano). Then he walked about a half hour in the summer sun to meet his Patron, who had the pick up. The rancher brought the javelina in, and we sent the brain for testing. Positive for rabies.
Anyway, most ranches will arrange a "day hunt" for around 100 bucks a gun/per day. Gotta talk to them ahead of time though.
The region also has feral pigs, which are a lot tastier, and bigger. that is usually a night hunt. A lot of the local Mexicanos live-trap them around Imperial, TX.
Look at the outfitters for day hunts that do one pig, any # of javelina, and one other animal, packages. Usually reasonable. Anywhere south of Ft Stockton, and west of San antonio, or in deep south Texas.
