I just ordered a bunch of cleaning supplies for my ar that I will hopefully be picking up soon from the dealer. One of the items I ordered was a 17' cleaning rod because I will have a 14' barrel. The JPRG in midway catalog looked about a couple of inches long...I just received it today and it is like 11'. This is my first AR and I was wondering how much of the JPRG ends up in the barrel to answer the more important question, What length cleaning rod do I need???
Thanks,
Chad

Also, I did get my ammo in same order...what do you think of 69 grain lapua scenars, and 69 grain BH with smk for a 1 in 9 twist?

Also, (edit) why in the hell do they sell cleaning rods with male ends????
this is the second time I ordered one

Re: JP AR-15 cleaning rod guide

I can't comment on the JPRG but betwen myself & my friend we have 2 rifles in 223, a CZ 527 w/18" bbl & a 700P w/26" bbl. Both of us are using 68gr hornady match/69gr SMK with 1 in 9 twists with excellent results.

Neither of us use factory ammo. When i tried 69gr FGMM in the cz groups were not acceptable but the reloads worked excellent.

Re: JP AR-15 cleaning rod guide

I use a 26" Tipton cleaning rod for my AR's. I use a bore guide too and with it installed it sticks out about an inch and a half out of the back of the upper receiver and with the rod pushed all the way through on a 16" BBL the rod sticks out about 4 inches past the muzzle.

I suggest that if you were to purchase a different length cleaning rod take into consideration other AR's or rifles that you can clean with it as well.

I can't comment on the ammo or the male ended cleaning rods.
