Hello I am in the market for a new barrel. I have a DPMS LR 308 and I am looking at a JP Rifle 18 inch Barrel Kit for it. JP’s barrels come cryoed and have an adjustable gas block and it is going to set me back around $700.00. I have heard good things about them and was wondering if anyone had some experience with them and had any comments on them. Also if there is any other barrel companies out there that are just as good for the cost. I am on a budget of around 750.00.
Thanks guys!

Re: JP Rifle Barrels

I'm not sure who makes JP's barrels - I doubt they do it in-house. I have one of their "Cryogenically Treated Supermatch" barrels on my Grendel. It only shoots about .75-1 MOA which is not spectacular.

GA Precision seems to be sourcing barrels for their GAP-10 from Bartlein. You may want to contact them.

For what it's worth, Bartlein wins benchrest competitions. I have never seen a JP barrel on the equipment list of a benchrest match.

That being said, I've seem people posting about having fabulous accuracy out of their JP barrels. I may just have a bad one.

Re: JP Rifle Barrels

My understanding is that JP uses Wilson blanks (my source being a Nosler rep), so they're definitely not benchrest. I don't know where they get their cryo done, if they chamber for themselves, etc. That being said, I get very good to great performance from my LRP-07.

Does the other stuff in their package appeal to you? Matched bolt, choice of comp and adjustable gas? Otherwise you could save a couple bucks and just get the adjustable gas if you're going to reuse your bolt and comp.

One thing that I wouldn't prefer on the 18" is that it's mid-length gas rather than rifle, but that's personal preference.
