They don't seem to be very popular with this crowd, but the multi-gun guys love them. Why the apparent disparity in sentiments?

For many years JP made guns with the focus solely being on all out performance and very little focus on adding 8 miles of rail space, vertical grips etc.
IMO JP builds every bit as good of a gun or better than many of the well marketed tactical brands, but I think there popularity is not related to quality so much as just the evolution of a brand that early on focused on a different market.

I recently purchased and received a rifle from JP and here is what I can tell you
1) they quoted me a lead time and they delivered before the lead time date... A true shocker in the custom and semi-custom rifle industry
2) their staff was very knowledgeable and passionate about their rifles
3) when I called to order my gun, the person assisting me with my order was not concerned about specing out a rifle that he would want, but designing a rifle that would fit my needs
4) they gave me an accuracy promise, which was achieved with both factory ammo and the very first reloads that I put down the tube. It is truly a sub-MOA gun
5) their attention to detail in their finished product is amazing. There upper fits there lower like a glove And all of the parts appear to be of the highest quality.
I have found only two downsides to JP AR rifles
1) they are a little spendy... But if you truly look at the quality, I think that they are fairly priced
2) once you have one, it's hard not too pick up another AR style rifle and notice all of the short comings it has compared to your JP.

Ultimately, I have owned a lot of different firearms over the years and there are only 3 that I consider permeant party in my safe:
1) AIAW
2) Benelli Super Black Eagle
3) My JP AR

I built my AR out of mostly JP parts and I can say it will out shoot me by far, they make some really nice stuff. the only thing that's not JP on my rifle is the upper and lower receivers, I would love to have there's but i just cant spend that kind of money on receivers.

JP rifles are great rifles and JP himself supports the shooting sports like no other. yes this brand is most popular in the 3 gun world and not so much in the tactical world. My opinion, this may not be too popular but a lot of plinkers won't spend the money on a good quality rifle. Plus there is a lot of folks who like to build their own. Just my .02 cents.

Theirs a reason JP is loved in 3 gun, for me, if I'm going to spend 5 to 7 hundred dollars shooting a big match, I want to best equipment, plus, he does support the sport

Not sure why they're not more popular, my CTR02 was well used when I bought it and still shoots exceptionally well. You've seen my KMW, the fit and finish is every bit as good or better on the JP. I've shot it out at 500 and 600 yards and it does as well as I could ask for, although the optics on it are set up for closer range 3 gun.

I will echo the previous sentiments that JP makes good rifles and are good people to deal with! I have several JP components in my LR-308 and am extremly pleased with their performance. For 3gun I run a JP-15 upper on a DPMS lower with JP trigger group and Low mass bolt/buffer. It recoils like a .22LR which is one reason they are VERY popular with the 3gun crowd. They can hold their own at distance as well. Mine is a sub MOA gun with handloads and groups well at range. You won't regret buying one!

What do you all think about the heat sinks that they recommend for their barrels? I just ordered my JP and was going to "opt out" of the heatsink, but they talked me into it. Personally, Ive never been too keen on hanging items (other than a brake or a suppressor) off my rifle. How many here have experience with their heat sink? Is it necessary? beneficial? detrimental?

On the last CTR02 I had I optioned the heat sink. I had run the gun pretty hard at a few matches and was kind of developing the opinion that it was not all that functional. The next time I went out practicing I removed the heatsink to see the difference. There was a noticeable difference when running a fast 30-45 round string. How many degree's of change...who knows?
