Hey, new to the forum and 1st time posting.

I'm hoping someone can help me out with a decision on muzzle treatments. I have a RRA LAR-8 Elite Operator and I am thinking of substituting my existing Smith Vortex flash hider with either a JP Tactical Recoil Eliminator or a JP Tactical (Bennie Coolie) Tactical Compensator. I am considering the change for the recoil reduction and for the aesthetics. I have a few questions:

Has anyone tried these and if so what is your opinion?

Has anyone tried both and have an opinion as to one or the other?

Can an amateur non-gunsmith install one of these assuming I have a threaded barrel?

Other general thoughts?

Your comments are appreciated. Thank you.

Re: JP Tactical Rec. Elim. or JP (Bennie Coolie) Comp.

I have one on my ar10 and its freakin great! easy to spot hits at 100 and out. I shot 150 rounds through mine in a day with no should pain or concussion headache.

They actually fairly pleasant to shoot next to as well since they dont seem to put out a huge blast...I was shooting my bolt gun about 4 feet left of my buddy shooting my ar10 and was just getting a nice cool puff of air!

I run the JP Benny Cooley comp and JP adjustable gas block on both my AR-15 and AR-10. I also run the low mass BCG and buffer in the AR-15 for 3 gun. I have been extremely pleased with the comp's performance! With the full recoil reduction setup in the AR-15 it's like shooting a .22LR. The AR-10 there is some recoil reduction and a significant reduction in muzzle rise. When I first got my AR-10 I did not have the JP brake installed because it was on backorder. I shot several competitions without it and have since shot several competitions with it....it's never coming off the rifle!

One thing I would advise is if you want to get the maximum benefit of the comp strongly consider an adjustable gas block. Most AR's are WAY over gassed and slowing the cycle time down a little will help reduce recoil and muzzle rise from the BCG not slamming around so much.

Lastly, also take a look at the SJC Titan comp for 7.62mm. It is a favorite comp of the Heavy Metal 3gun crowd.

I run the Recoil Eliminator on my 308ar 18.5" spotting hits and misses at 1k
is not a problem.

Had a FSC30 the first trip to the range with the new rifle the FSC wasnt bad but then I switched it out the next trip to the JPRE and there was a noticeable difference

I called JP and asked about both and they said there isnt much
of a difference in performance between the two.
Two meaning JPRE and the Large Profile BC tactical comp.

"isnt much of a difference" was enough for me to choose the JPRE
Either way you cant go wrong.

edit: I use a JP adj. gas block too and it does make a difference.

I have their compensator on an AR10 type rifle with adjustable gas block.

I have not tried their RE.

I installed it myself, but I also have a JP barrel that was clocked for it.

Depending on your barrel diameter, you may want a smith to trim the brake to fit. Also the thread should allow the brake to line up perfectly - clocking.

- It is laud and pushes dirt sideways when prone or may push things of the benches next to you, but perfect for the shooter.

I have one of their recoil eliminators, it works great, but man the percussion wave to the sides is a killer. Unless you're in the sweet spot behind the rifle, you better be ready for a breeze.

I've tried one of the large tac comps, works as well as the recoil eliminator with the same effects. The small tac comp is a little less effective but still works very well.

I have the JP Brake on my .308 R700 20", the reduction in recoil is impressive but as others have mentioned you wont make any friends at the bench next to you. I installed mine temporarily with a crush washer, it's not as pretty as I'd like but I was able to time it correctly.
