Unfortunately, judicial stupidity has been around for a long time. I was looking through the December 1937 issue of the American Rifleman when I came across this news clipping in "Bandits and Guns, the 1937 version of "The Armed Citizen".
Supposedly there is/was a similar law on the books in S.C. back in the day, but ours had to do with carrying pint or half pint liquor bottles rather than pistols.
Ever wondered why half pint and pint bottles are curved?
Yeah they got pretty ban happy back then too didn't they?
You come to my door trying to cut out my hip pockets and somebody ain't going home tonight! Seriously, that's one maybe worth going to the mat over on principle alone but either way it pointed to a problem that needed to be nipped in the bud over 100 years ago.
I ain't rich but if you're into bans that goddamn much, I'll pitch in to export your ass somewhere a little more accommodating.
