Jury Duty

Im well aware of the jury nullification powers. And im going to make that clear in my interview. If this is a case of minor drugs or petty crime, Im going to let it be known. Our prison systems are too flooded with minor crap. And Ill let the other jurors know of the power they hold. I dont believe a person should face prison time for selling weed. Community service and fines are sufficient enough for that. Meth, cocaine and heroine are different. And prescription pills. Id throw the book at them.

Its NOT that I dont want to "serve" my fellow citizen, its the process at which jury duty is selected. Which I think needs a new look. Get jurors who WANT to be there. Not just people who vote. My brother is all about court rooms. And hes never been called once. Hes 36. He also doesnt vote. Dont stick a gun in a guys back and tell him to show or else! That just pisses people off and leads them to lie just to get out of serving. And if they are selected, how much is their head in the game? Not much. They just mindlessly follow what everybody else wants to do.
Well, we elect people who WANT power. How is that working out? I don’t want any fucker judging me who wants to be there judging me, period.
When I’ve been called it’s been like being in a freak show. When I hear them talk and answer questions it’s taxing not to roll my eyes. I wear a suit and tie everyday, and when I report to jury duty I dress for work. This also has always meant one side uses and automatic objection against me. I’ve never even been asked a question. I have short hair, sit straight, and look people in their eyes. I’m poison to one side always.

I have been called and served 4 times in the last 5 years. I rather like it because instead of bitching about crime/criminals/politics and all that I actually get to *do* something. I feel that if I'm ever accused of a crime and it goes to trial I don;t wanna be judged by a jury of 12 folks who are pissed 'cause they couldn't get out of jury duty.

It's a basic right - to be tried by a jury of 12 instead of being tried by one man who wants to judge me.

Lots of places are moving to hiring/retaining "professional jurors" because getting enough qualified jurors from the general public is getting to be difficult, impossible, and expensive weeding them out. Hiring people who have been vetted and retaining them to hear evidence (once approved by the attorneys) speeds the whole process up and we get fewer imbeciles sitting on a jury.

I like doing it and signed up to be called at a higher rate to ease the burden on those who don't wanna do it. Which seems to be pretty much everyone now days.

I feel the same way. I've been in court a lot because of evil ex-wives and other evil idiots. The Judges in 99% of the cases already have their minds made up.

For those of you who do everything that you can to get out of Jury duty, I sympathize with whatever income loss you may incur by being there. It sucks but I wished they would pay jurors more.

Now let's put this in another perspective. Let's say you are charged with first degree murder even though you shot a POS in self defense. Consider for a moment how prosecuting attorneys will cast you in a bad light. I've seen it. They don't care whether you live or die.

They want you convicted so they can add you to their 99% conviction rate just so they can get reelected because the average voter thinks that they are tough on crime.

Seriously ask yourself if you were wrongfully accused, do you want a bunch of pissed off idiots on a jury who have the attitude of "let's just hang him and get it over with?"

I've been in court cases when people that I thought were my friends didn't want to testify and others went out of their way to help me by telling the truth about me. I could not thank my real friends enough for their courage and loyalty. The same goes for someone who wants to do their civic duty and give someone a fair trial.

For those people who bitch and moan about losing money cause they are on a Jury, I would ask you to consider what an innocent defendant is going through. They could lose much more because of incompetent, pissed off jurors.

On the other side of the coin is the problem of the guilty person going free. Don't you think the victim(s) of a guilty person's criminal act would appreciate having an intelligent and honest person on a Jury who's not afraid to vote for a conviction to get justice done? Think about the victim that's been deprived of life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness.

It's wrong to pay Jurors so little money while the idiot Judges and crooked attorneys get paid so much. But until that is ever changed, an honest and intelligent Juror is the one way that justice will ever be served in a courtroom.

I’ve been called 2x in the last 2 yrs. The 1st time I was in the pool but as a reserve. The second time I was in the pool for voir dire, only to get into it with the judge about how my time was being wasted / how the entire thing was a farce of law - b/c the defendant was an illegal, who had been kicked out before, only to come back and commit more crimes.

Needless to say I was an instant strike. I see the judge at the gym some, I think he is still a little shocked.

I have been a juror on 4 trials. Called many times but only seated 4 times. Plea deals? how is that good? The defendant pleas to a lessor degree when if it had gone to trial on the original charge he probably would have done more time. Monkeyshines? How much money do you have?
In each and every jury I have been seated on I didn't think about what it was costing me or any way I could have gotten out of it.
I showed up and I answered every question posed to me honestly and I always show up in clean coveralls like I wear everyday so there is your peers. I just wanted to see that all got a fair deal.
On each and every jury I was on I sat there and gave my undivided attention as to what was said by all. I listened to each and every word and if someone next to me was not doing the same I would give them a nudge or a whack and tell them to pay attention, someone's life or lifestyle is on the line here so listen up. I am glad they have alternates as some are just not up to the task at hand.
I have 2 convictions and 2 they walked and I feel right about all of them.
One thing I have come out with from those trials is that our court system is broken and needs a Major overhaul. Tax money is wasted big time to watch these lawyers and judges do their SHIT.
Army Jerry, You let him go even though you knew he was guilty? That ain't right, and if you think the non-English speaking copper thief and his spawn weren't already on welfare and EBT and all of those other programs, you need to pull you head out of a dark place and know they are already there so you saved the Tax payers nothing.
A thief is a thief and receives no pity from me.
Maybe if the thief were raiding your Ammo storage spot when you were off taking a dump you would think differently?
You can't be everywhere all of the time. FM

I been called, let the guy go, I knew he did what he did but they charged felony, he stole $600 in scrap copper wire from a scrap collection point. No need throwing the guy in jail for 6 months for his family to go on welfare. Thought the charges were too harsh, I told the other jurors that a few got pissed and wanted to convict the guy but I basically told them I wont do it and that my work actually paid me time and a half for doing my civic duty so the longer we were there the better for me. Gotta do your civic duty.
Boooo

Not much worse than a thief. Should be capital punishment.
