Just a little info for the 6.5 vs. 308 debate

Re: Just a little info for the 6.5 vs. 308 debate

I can get more velocity out of a 20" .308 shooting that round than the chart shows for a 24" barrel. It would be interesting to see the comparison where the 6.5 uses a 20" or shorter barrel compared to the .308

Yes, I think that the 2750fps that they reported for the 123gr 6.5G is a very challenging velocity to obtain even in the 24" AR barrels. 6.5G is a great round, but it isn't that good.

My 18" 6.5G does 2500fps w/ factory loaded 123gr AMax.

I am currently getting 2794 out of my 22 grendal barrel with nosler 120gr with 31 grains of accurate 2520.

I also would like to see a comparison with the shorter barrels.

The first post has some good info:

Did you really dig that up from 2004? There are many more posts over the last seven years that have good (less biased) info. The 6.5G is a good round, and I've been looking at getting an upper. However, espousing hard to reach max load data in comparison against other mid-tier loads is lame; and has been overdone in this, 'my penis is smaller but can shoot further than yours' war.

My friends 6.5G with 24" only gets 2580 fps with the same ammo.
