With all the major changes in technology we see in this day and age compared to when we were born, isn't it nice that the sound of a dial tone when we call someone is still the same after all these years?

LOL!! Whatever the noise is called when the phone is waiting for someone to pickup. I now realize that a dial tone is the noise when no number has been dialed yet. Yeah, I know an autistic moment.

I think what you're going for is the ringing tone you hear when you dial a number and it starts ringing.

That is typically referred to as the 'ringback tone'. Most carriers use the same 440hz + 480hz with 2 seconds on and 4 seconds off. A handful of other places around the world use that, too.

Hell, I still remember having to use rotary phones, and when "dropping a dime" literally meant dropping a dime in a pay phone to make a call.

Miss the old rotary phone in mom's kitchen . Funny I missed the house too . Parents sold the house about eighteen years ago . Mom passed and dad is with bro . Went back to check out the house and was amazed at how small it seemed . Growing up it was a castle . Whenever I'm away from home. , no matter how far or how long I dream that I'm back home with family in that house .

Yeah, I went down and looked at a childhood home here in SoCal, when I was in the area for work. Man that place was small. But, I remember being able to walk to the local fruit/vegetable stand on the corner (corn was 10 ears for a dollar), walk two blocks to elementary school and walking 6 blocks to the beach...all without a care in the world. Now that area is damn near the barrio....

We haven’t had a landline phone in 15 years.

My 13-year-old kid was amazed when we explained to him that you could pick up a second land line phone in the house and listen in on a phone call. It blew his mind LOL.

Have a landline but no phone for it. Only reason is that it’s cheaper to have that, cable , and internet in the so called bundle from xfinity.

Took the kids a few years ago to see a film called ‘alien in the attic’ and they laughed their asses off when arotary phone come out. Thankfully no one asked where the 11 was for dialing 9-11.

We do plenty if camping and whatnot, but sometimes I wouldn’t mind an EMP setting things back for a weekend.
