Found this in a gun shop in Western Virginia. (not West Virginia). Ordered a Badger Ordnance 20 MOA scope mount.

Aside from getting a scope for it, what else should I consider doing to the M24? Barrel lapping? What do/did the Army Armorers do to the M24 SWS before issuing them out?

Thanks in advance for any tips and guidance!

The armorer doesn't do anything with the M24 except write down the serial number, hand it out to the sniper, and take it back in. The M24 was designed to be user serviceable to an extent and anything above that, mainly barrel changes, needs to be sent back to Remington. I wouldn't mess with the barrel, it's fine, it won't require lapping, just shoot it and be happy. Make sure the Badger base that you ordered has 8-40 base screws as the M24 was drilled and tapped for 8-40 screws. Get a raised cheek piece, the Triad Tactical version is great and is probably the best in the industry at the moment..

And that semi custom wouldnt be a contract over run M24 SWS........

Not sure if you think that's a good or bad thing.

But this IS an M24, not a clone, or what someone thinks an M24 is or should be. Finding the "as issued" scope might be a bit of a challenge though! If I can't get the Leupold Mk IV 10X40 w M118 turrets, I can always get something close and have the Leupold Custom shop make the turrets for around $60. I'd druther have the "as issued" scope, but I'm not going to set my hair and wallet on fire to get one...

My M-14 SE Crazy Horse project (M21 clone) went that way and I probably have $5.5K+ into that rifle at this point.

I think its AWesome!

customs and semi customs are nice.

They have no historical significance and given the financials, I would have bought one of the M24s Marty from Badger had up a while back and would love to have some M40 clones like the one on the PX now.

keep your eye out, just saw a 10x about 2 months ago that woulda been close.........

The Remington rebuilds go for about $3100. You're paying for a M24 rifle. No different than a M40.

Yep. that's exactly what I paid for mine last week. I randomly stumbled upon one in a gun shop. It was new/unfired with the original Ultra M3A scope, Ultra rings, Kill Flash for scope, Harris bipod, deployment kit (full repair kit, cleaning, spare parts, torque wrench, etc.). Original worn spray paint too. Paid $3100 on the nose. They're still out there.
