Just installed the JP Inc. capture spring and low mass carrier

Having some extra cash to burn I opted for these two parts. DSG in Texas had them in stock and they shipped fast. I've used Jp triggers and have always been very happy. The parts are very well made. The carrier is 7.5 oz compared to 9.8 oz of a standard carrier. The capture spring assembly was 7.9 oz where as a carbine buffer and spring are 5.6 oz. So many people touted that it is much smoother than the standard setup. I cry b.s. I don't feel a difference at all. I never had the twang either since I always lubed the buffer and spring. I was hoping to get a little less felt recoil to help with follow up shots. Honestly I doubt it will do much but I had to try. I will post over the weekend with my range results. I know the stuff is probably gamer sh*t.

they do make the gun run smoother as well as reduce the recoil impulse, you may want to get a syrac adjustable gas block to tune your gun to your load. The first thing I would recommend is that you get rid of is that mag release button.

That's a nice looking rig. I was wondering how much difference the JP LM system helped. I've heard that its a gotta have and others say its a waste of funds. I'm pretty pleased with how flat my gun shoots but wouldn't mind making it better but it doesn't sound like it would help enough to be worth it.

lucky you, the first time I moved from a barricade I inadvertently dropped my mag my with that release so I have sworn them off ever since

Trust me... It definitely improves the functioning of the rifle and it is not "gamer shit"... far far from it.

John has put a ton if work into improving the AR in many ways. He has made some of the greatest advancements in ARs and these are two of them.

Nothing like taking an over gassed gun that slams back a full mass carrier, and taking that same amount of gas and slamming back a lighter one. It's all about physics. You have a lighter and smoother operating system that needs less gas to move it, so why would you use the same amount of gas for an overweight less efficient system?

I run Syracs but would like to try a DA7. The set screw version fits under my hand guards. Also there are different springs available for the silent capture spring... JP sells a kit with 5 different tension springs... It's not on their web page... Only their catolog... The original spring is their midweight spring. You can also buy the springs individually...Ohh and try the phase V EBRV2 it makes the bad lever look and feel like junk.

Looks like others beat me to it; if you don't cut back on the gas when you switch to the lighter LMOS carrier the rifle is severely overgassed.

Assuming your barrel is .750 diameter at the gas block I'd recommend a Syrac or SLR detent adjustable gas block. No worries about a setscrew moving if the loctite softens.

6.5 Grendels are sensitive to things like changes in buffers. If JP told me something works for it I would tend to believe them as everything else I have purchased from JP works as advertised. Have they tested the captive spring and/or low mass carrier in Grendels? Grendels are supposed to be especially sensitive to buffer weight changes in collapsable stock rifles. Anything that would smooth out cycling, or reduce recoil would be useful though.

Woops, the color threw me off. I thought it was the 1-4. Now that I look at the turrets I see it is the 1-6 HD.

I put about 100 rounds though her today and I honestly don't feel any difference. I guess it wont matter until I install the adjustable gas system. One thing that bother me a little was the Noveske lower paint chips by the case deflector. No biggie but I though it would hold up much better. Hope the rest of the lower stays ok.

Well today I finally had a chance to test the new system out. It took about 9 shoots to get the bolt to lock to the rear with a magazine installed. It first I really didn't think there was any difference at all. After about 40 rounds I grabbed my other M4 which it the same weight,comp and barrel length. After the first shot I was like this feels like a cannon compared to the Jp low mass system. Its almost like a black powder rifle now. Its more of a slow push back not the hard fast recoil of a standard gas system. There is minimal barrel climb and you can back on target slightly faster. I tried doing some runs with my shot timer but the rifles have different triggers so its not a good test. Once has a Jp trigger the other a Geissle super 3 gun. Hate the 3 gun trigger by the way. I tried to video the run I want to see if there is a visual difference. Its expensive but if you want to go all out in a build I would recommend it.

I hope someone can explain something to me. The bolt carrier, and buffer work together to manage recoil extraction, of the fired cartridge, and reloading the chamber. If a standard bolt carrier and buffer is exchanged for a light weight bolt carrier and heavier buffer, hasn't the mass simply been moved from the bolt carrier to the buffer? If so, it would seem that the same general weight of parts is recripocating when the rifle fires, and therefore, I wouldn't expect a significant change in the recoil impulse.

I can see how a quality captive spring can get rid of the "twang" sound and smooth out the cycling of the rifle. So would an adjustable gas system. Overall, it seems that in order to get the full benefit of these parts, an adjustable gas system should be incorporated into the system.

If the weight is just moved from the bolt carrier into the buffer or spring (as in an extra power spring), wouldn't getting just the adjustable gas system first be the way to go?

I'm not bashing on JP stuff because all the JP products I have ever bought work great. I just don't understand how moving the weight from bolt carrier to buffer changes all that much.

What I believe is the lower weight bolt is less mass moving to the rear lowering the push on the shooter. The heavier spring and buffer slow the cyclic rate. Now adding the adjustable gas block allows me to tune the rifle to the lowest amount of gas required to operate the action. I thought it was b.s. until I tried it myself. I wish I purchased a JP rifle to begin with.

I run a JP SCS in my Mega billet build. Noveske Afghan barrel, Young NM BCG, Vltor lo-pro gas block, POF muzzle brake, SSA-E, BCM mil-spec tube with CTR stock. My rifle runs as smooth as butter. IMO, the JP SCS is fucking awesome.

The buffer should not be a "heavy buffer" while the overall weight of the JPSCS is heavier than a standard buffer, the actual buffers on the JPSCS are lighter. The idea is to remover mass from all of the reciprocating parts, then the adjustable gas block is used to remove the excess energy that would otherwise cause the system to get slammed back and forth.

I would recommend tuning your JPSCS with the available different weight springs even if you have an adjustable gas block ..... I played with the different weight springs available and on my 5.56, 6.8 and 308 the heaviest spring (100 and 110 for 308) gave me the lightest recoil feel. I don't use the low mass bcg so vmmv....
