A rifle is a tool.Indeed! What's the purpose? What's your budget?
I think if you throw lightweight hunting into the mix + .223 trainer it is very hard to beat the Bighorn TL3 in a light stock. Steel match barrel(s) and a Proof for hunting (standard short action and short mags).
I was also going to vote something along the lines of a TL3 or a Impact Action. Something you can buy off the shelf barrels for without the need for a gunsmith. The bonus to the TL3/SR3/Origin is the ability to swap bolt heads around.Without having specific info for the rifle's purpose, I think this is the best answer.
I like accurate rifles.
Have you tried the competition trigger?I’ve had custom 700 doner rifles, semi-custom factory rifles, factory rifles... all at the same time.
I now own one AI AX308 with a 6.5cm barrel and 308 barrel. Not only is it the most adaptable stock I’ve ever owned, it’s the most accurate rifle I’ve ever owned. Is the trigger a sub 1.5 lbs comp trigger? No but not a bad trigger at all and it’s definitely shootable if you have good trigger control. In my hands anything else is now sub par.
I’m surprised there isnt anyone making replacement carbon handguards for the AX. Pair that with a proof carbon barrel youd have a gun that’s failry manageable in weight for hunting as well.
Not yet, I might venture down that road but so far I’m really happy with how it’s shooting.Have you tried the competition trigger?
