It's been a long time since I owned a Sig but I couldn't help it I had to have one again.
I ordered a Sig P229 in .40 the other day and I expect it in a week or so after X-mas. I've heard the triggers are better than they used to be any comments on that or the rest of the gun

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

It's a Sig, so it should run! I have one in .357 Sig and I have never had a single failure whatsoever. the SA trigger isn't too bad. Coming from SA and striker fired guns, I am still trying to get use to the DA trigger pull. I find it to be a little heavy and thick to carry though. I had a hard time finding a holster that would fit me and conceal well. Got a Crossbreed Super Tuck in the other week and it's perfect. For a IWB holster, it's very comfortable and conceals exceptionally well. Also with the way the mounts are, they really help distribute the weight of the gun.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I have a Sig 229 in .40 - and I love it, really nice gun and I find the trigger to be fine.

Generally speaking I like Sigs - recently got one of the German Police P6's for my girlfriend (nice slim, single-stack grip) - great pistol for the money though that one did take a little work (short trigger, lighter hammer spring) to get it where she liked it.

When funds are more plentiful I'm planning on adding a P220 Combat to the stable.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I have a 229 .40 & 357 Sig. Both barrels are original and serial numbers match the gun. I prefer the 357 Sig barrel. Good trigger, always goes bang. Extremely accurate gun.

I have two...one in .357sig and another one in .40 cal I use in matches. I prefer the .357sig round. Weapon has always worked and I shoot both of them every month.

I would get a .357 sig barrel at some point. The Speer 125gr Gold Dot at 1350fps times 12+1 is a wonderful thing.

You can't go wrong with a Sig!

I have sold all of my other pistols and picked up a P229 40 & 357Sig. P220 45, and a P226 9mm - all of these have been awesome!

If I had more money, I would pick-up another one!

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

Sigforums.com is a good place to go, if you dont allready. Alot of people over there have been griping for years of the decline in quality of Sig's. I to a certain extent agree.

But having said that the x5 lineup is still choice. X-5 tactical is about the best 9mm handgun you can get for the money in my opinion, granted its a full frame pistol, so fairly limited to specific uses.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

No issues, excellent platform. Accurate, no malfucntions, basically ever.
Subjective; for me, any SIG ergonomics fit me best but I seem to prefer the 228 (if you can still find one) over the 229 but can't really put my finger on it. maybe slide mass?) You can switch to the shorter trigger for little bitch hands.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I have the Sig P-229 R for duty. I also have the Sig P226 Blackwater in 9mm, and the Sig P220 SAO ELite in 45 Cal. All very reliable.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I've got a 229 in .357 Sig and it is one of the most accurate pistols I own. Heck I managed to hit a 3 foot rock about 240 yards out in the river with it. Took like 3 or 4 shots to hit it but that was off hand (with a little luck too I'm sure).

In terms of reliability mine hasn't missed a beat yet and I seriously doubt that it ever will. The .357 Sig round seems to have a little more "pop + snap" IMHO than the 40 SW. I would like to get an additional 40 barrel for mine even still cause 357 Sig is a little hard to find around here and it's a lot more expensive than 40 is. I really like the gun a lot even though I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me I think it is a lot nicer gun that my HK USP or even my Beretta.

I normally use a 1911 Springfield so I tend to shoot that pair more. I like a SA trigger system and getting used to the DA/SA is something that I really haven't put enough time into it. I'm not saying that it can't be done only that I don't put the effort into it. The barrel length and grip is what I would consider a near perfect compromise for uniform Duty, Plain Clothes work and also for reasonable concealment.

If only they would make a SAO variant of the 229 like they do for the P220 and I think I'd be all over that.

Sig's are still in my opinion the best out of the box. As in the add "to hell and back reliability".

Good luck and enjoy

I have a 229 in 9mm love the thing but i do have to shoot higher power 9mm load other wise its great

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I have a 229 thats leftover from when I used to carry it as a backup. Great pistol. No complaints.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I bought one used from a police supply place here in Tampa 3 years ago. .357 Sig, matte stainless, tritium sights.

It has the older DAO trigger and it's a heavy pull, easily over the 8lb limit on my trigger guage! But I like it a lot and look forward to playing with the modularity of it when work improves. My hands are pretty sizable but I would prefer the shorter trigger and I'd also like to pick up a .40 cal barrel for it.

I'd keep an eye out for magazines that come on sale from time to time for less than $30.00 ea.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I think I saw some place recently that had used .40 caliber 229s pretty cheap. It was one of those deals that sends you a newspaper-like sales ad, but I can't remember which one. I think they were around $550.

Personally, I don't care for double action and have since sold all of my Sigs (I had two different ones, DAK and DA/SA).

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

Just took my Glock 35 and P220 to the range over the weekend. Liked the 35 a lot and mused I should get another one to change the trigger out.

But then shooting the Sig I'm reminded what good ergonomics are all about and the 35 feels like it was designed by something that was not human.

If Sig quality has declined, it's still pretty good as my P220 is a shooter. I'm sure the 229 is similar.

Re: Just ordered a new Sig 229.. opinions from owners?

I have 5 SIGS and not a problem with any of them.

The 229 in 9mm is one of my favorites and it was my first one. I have since bought two P220s and two P226s. The Elites have the short reset trigger and the black ones do not.

All different calibers or so you can go all "boondock saints" on someone?

So.... what you're saying is, you DO want to go "boondock saints" on someone.

I used to have hand guns in 9mm, .357sig, 40s&w, and 45acp. Now I'm down to two 9mm Glocks and mine and my wife's 1911's.
