Question: Did it require some dremel/filing work to get the Mcree to accept the Jewell? I read once that it did.

No it didn't.
The Jewell fit right in there.

The grip on the Mcree is the same fitting and attachment method as a normal AR-15 grip. The high "tang" of some grips may need to be cut off though, as the Mcree has no room for it.

When I ordered mine last fall, it was pretty much a "pick your color" type of thing. I know Scott keeps stocks on hand, but none of them are painted until he receives an order. I know all the common colors are available: OD green, flat dark earth, coyote tan, and matte black. Scott is a good guy and more than willing to work with you if you have any unusual requests.

I haven't messed with the grip on the trigger yet.
The Jewell trigger is a thinner trigger then on my Sako and pretty much every firearm that I have at the moment. It feels a little different on the pad of my finger. It feels pretty solid and doesn't have as much play as my two stage on the Sako. It is a crisp trigger.
As far as painting if I didn't want my stock painted I would have probably recieved it in less then a week.

I am plannig on getting a McRee stock this week. was the installation easy for someone without any smithing skills? whats a good Rem700 for the drop in?

It's very easy to do. A driver with the correct bit on it, 2 screws and you done. Torque properly.....
