Just smashed my old record...

Tonight I smashed my old pull-up record of 35 dead-hang pull-ups by doing 40 dead-hang pull-ups. I've been at the "35-dead-hang-pull-ups" wall for nearly 3 months now. I'm pretty satisfied with myself.

Beast mode right there, you have a very strong back amongst other muscle groups.

Re: Just smashed my old record...

Also you never mentioned what style of pull ups you did, if these were wide grip you are a Greek God in my book. Impressive none the less though, def be proud!

Re: Just smashed my old record...

You should go do some pull-ups... my guess is right about now you'd be able to beat your "old" record of 40.

Nice job by the way... I'm lingering around the 30-range.

Re: Just smashed my old record...

300, I'm 56 and hit it 4 times a week. No one has to tell me how hard pull ups are. That is an incredible accomplishment sir!! I would be thrilled to do 15 easily and I'm in pretty good shape for an ole guy!!

Keep up the good work! Makes me want to go try harder and increase my limit!!!

Cheers

As for you, Jimmy M40a2; STOP BEING A ONE-UPPER AND PISS OFF!

I don't give 2 fucking shits about what your friend can do. This post was about my hard work and perseverance; but then you came along, made me feel like my accomplishment was trash, and forced me to judge you a complete douche. You didn't even accomlish anything; you have to talk about what your FRIEND did. For future reference, if you want to talk about your accomplishments (or those of your friends) please feel free to make an original post and not to repost under someone else's original post; thank you.

Now I'm pissed off... </div></div>

I agree with ya. Your accomplishment is remarkable and Jimmy sorry to say, but your friend means nothing here. SO CONGRATULATE THE MAN!!!

Re: Just smashed my old record...

thats a serious achievment congrats.im stuck at between 18 and 20, what kind of training were you doing ? any tips to help up my number would be appreciated

Re: Just smashed my old record...

Hey- I apoligize I didnt mean to belittle your accomplishment. Its a ton of hard work. Congradulations.- It takes years to build up to that amount. Please accept my appology. We used to push each other with healthy competition. Im sorry for the way it came off.

Jimmy M40a2 - We're good, man.

Hiddenmongoose - If you want to increase the number of pull-ups you can do, you need to increase your body weight while doing your pull-ups. As a general rule, I would suggest that you add about 18-30 pounds of weight. You can attach a dumbbell with a rope around your waist (this is what I do). If you have chains, you can lay them around your neck and do pull-ups like that. Just try to add weight to your overall body weight.

Re: Just smashed my old record...

That is a shit load of pull ups!!

I see alot of guys do the cheesy half rep deals for 20-30'reps but when you tell them to do a dead hang and start from the bottom each rep it typically cuts their reps way more than in half!!

Once I get around 15-18 my shoulder screams at me to stop so I try to use added weight and lower reps.

That many reps with that range of motion proves you have a ton of muscular endurance!!
Huge congratulations , keep rocking

x2! I see guys also doing the 1/2 pull up dealio and "throwing" their legs upwards to use the momentum, totally defeating their workout. I just do as many dead hang's as I can, as soon as I move my legs during a pull up I quit knowing my form has gone south. I will have to try the weighted pull ups, I never really thought of that. I bet the same principles apply to dips too.

Re: Just smashed my old record...

Yes, same principle applies to dips as well. I used to do mine weighted and it makes a great difference. I never thought to add weight to my dead hangs though. Now I need to try it

Re: Just smashed my old record...

I have read this thread a couple of times and every time I think of it I have to say my hats off to you. Forty dead hang pull ups is amazing. You have inspired me to actually come up with a goal and not just say 15 with multiple reps and done. I think I will do the same with push-up and give myself a goal since they are kind of the ying-yang of each other.

Re: Just smashed my old record...

Just be very careful when adding weight: if you allow your body to 'drop' to the bottom of the exercise, there's a moderate-to-good chance that you will hyperextend and/or tear ligaments, muscle, and/or tendons in your shoulder joint (I should know, I tore my right shoulder really badly doing just this several years ago).

Make sure that as you go into the full 'dead hang' position that you do so slowly (when you have the extra weight added to you body).

Good advice!
